Either,
A) You're internet connection is terribad and Netflix is running on low resolution due to that.

B) The video you're playing doesn't support higher resolutions.

C) You're monitor has a terrible resolution to begin with.

Do you guys get those emails from Netflix the following day asking "How was the quality of the movie you watched yesterday?" I wonder if they do anything on Netflix's end to try to "intelligently" allocate the bandwidth? Perhaps if you respond to all these emails saying "quality was terrible" they will try to serve you better? Pure conjecture - for all I know they try to deliver all video to all customers at maximum quality. But we do know for sure that they at least have the ABILITY to step down the quality if your bandwidth is suffering. I'm just throwing it out there as a possible factor that they are stepping you down mistakenly. They could be stepping you down correctly if you have a network issue.
