New Build for Wife!

Thread Starter
Looking to build a new gaming rig for my wife's B-Day in October.

I have decided to go Intel for this build!

She does very light gaming.
Plays mostly RIFT now and some other games that are not system intensive.

Anyway looking for the least expensive build that can max out RIFT and still run her media/browser and whatever.

Since I have never actually built and Intel system and know very little of them, I leave it in your hands OCN Intel gurus. Lead the way.

Case and Input devices are already chosen.

Going with this for a case:

Need suggestions for the following:

CPU
Mobo
RAM
VGA

Just looking for the best bang for the buck. Nothing EXTREME!!! tongue.gif

No max budget(well... like... keep it under $1200 please.) Just looking for the best bang for the buck smile.gif

EDIT: Single GPU, Quad core at least, and at least 4 GBs of RAM

She is upgrading from a dual core Toshiba laptop.

Any suggestions on non - AMD graphics?

Leaning towards Nvidia on this build.

Keeping it under $1200 as in a $1000k+ is probably way more than needed, even accounting for the future. That case you have there is $120 shipped, Worth it? What does she like the look or something biggrin.gif

AMD:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 $110

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-990XA-UD3 AM3+ $148 Shipped.

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) $37

1GB GPU: EVGA 560 Ti 1GB $235. $210 after MIR.

2GB: GPU: Palit GTX 560 Ti $287 Shipped. $267 after MIR.

Up to you on GPU size.. This setup will do great and be easily upgradable with a Bulldozer or a 2nd 560 Ti.

$530, $505 after MIR for the 1GB 560 Ti setup.

Ofcourse you can spend $600/$700+ and get a quad core sandy bridge.. Now let's do a i5 2500k build.

INTEL:

CPU: i5 2500k $220

Mobo: ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z $188 Shipped.

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) $37

1GB GPU: EVGA 560 Ti 1GB $235. $210 after MIR.

2GB: GPU: Palit GTX 560 Ti $287 Shipped. $267 after MIR.

$680. $655 after MIR with the 1GB 560 Ti. That's pretty good actually.

go with 8gb vengence kit with whatever you go with, its extremely good ram and with how much it costs you cant go wrong. like 80 bux for 8 gigs.

Intel i5 2500k
I would go with ASUS P8P67-m Pro or ASUS P8P67 Pro, Gene 4 seems a overkill in features though if price is fine go for gene 4.
I would suggest MSI GeForce 560 ti twin frozer a lot quieter and cooler than EVGA.
As for ram G.Skill ripjaws 8 gigs 8-8-8-24 1600 MHz.
I would also suggest getting Noctua NH-D14 (Spray paint the fans to match the case, some guides on how to do it on OCN I believe even) so you can do some good OC on it.

A good 500 watts power supply should suffice Seasonic X-560 should do wonders.

thats $1,044.93 with the case included smile.gif
