he just wants to get a quad core, and yes we could build up an 1156 platform for maybe ~$80 less. but i think newer is better
post #36 of 41
That is a high budget for what you are going to use the computer for. If you want power and a build that will take care of it self for a few years then go the route of the i5-2500k with a 560ti.

If you are looking for something to get the job down and not use all your budget then I would go the the i3 route with a 560 non ti. Saves money and will still be a powerful machine that will last some time but will struggle after a few years.

For what you wife needs, as you have described I would go the second route. Both builds would be a good computer, but the second route is cheaper and will work just as well. You will see no difference in games like Rift, you really would not see any difference in MOST games.

Here is the PC my wife built. I made her build it herself and so she appreciates it that much more.

Why not a dual core? they run cooler, cheaper inital cost and they seem to fit your usage description very well. I use a dual core for most of everything I do but as you see with my sig rig I could go higher. My dual core choices are socket 775 stuff, unlocked AMD 555 or something you may consider is the AMD tripple. Why not the i3 if you want Intel.I have the 955 also and it is a great cpu, but do you need the power?

EDIT: I see the cpu choice has already been gone over.
