speaking of ssd's... GET AN SSD. i did an 1100$ build and got a vertex 3 120gb for 250$. it was DEFINITELY worth it. if you have 2500$ and you DONT get an SSD, i'd probably hang my head in shame for you. It's the LARGEST noticeable upgrade a computer can get these days and it destroys even two raptors in RAID 0
I heard that I should get an ssd to bootup my os and then get a 1tb hdd at 7200 rpms just for gaming. Is that true or should I just get like two 256gb ssds?

Edit:: So I can't use a pci express 2.0 card on a 3.0 slot?

Why would you raid 2x velicoraptors when you can just get an SSD?

I recently got my sig rig for $2400 after rebates. Here is what I have:
RAM

CPU Cooler

PSU

Ext HDD

3D vision

Video card

Motherboard

HDD

BD Burner

I got the following from amazon;
Acer GD235HZ
Logitech MX5500
Crucial 128Gb C300 SSD
Coolermaster HAF-X

Now, you could probably get the next gen of some of the parts I have and if you don't need the 3d vision, you could get a better graphics card

OP: Do you realize how much I wanna punch you in the face right now? I just spent more than an hour looking up info, links, prices and typing crap out only for you to up your budget and create a new thread. You should have just renamed that last one and editted your first post.

Anyway. Here's what I built for you. Seems pointless now though. Afterall you upped your budget.

Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz - $219.99
GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD4-B3 LGA 1155 - $159.99
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600 - $74.99
2x XFX Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 - $379.98($189.99 each)
CORSAIR Professional Series HX850 - $174.99
Crucial RealSSD C300 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive - $231.86(this is your operating system drive.)
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB 7200 RPM - $59.99 (this drive for storage)
ASUS 24X DVD Burner - $20.99
CORSAIR H80 (CWCH80) High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler - $109.99
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM - $99

TOTAL: $1299.91

Now for your case thats totally up to you. Cases tend to come down to personal preference. Some want something sleek and modern.(NZXT Phantom) While others want something Rugged and Military looking. (HAF 922). Basically though yyou want something with bottom mount PSU, good cable management, and good airflow. I will leave the case selection up to your tastes.

120 gb for 250-300 on the new drives

the reason i chose the raptors was in my case i have 400gb of stuff on my steam account alone. also for the power supply i said to get that 1200 because you will never need to buy a power supply again. with how much these cards draw now just think of what they will draw in the future, even with die shrinks they are going to pull more

Omg, ppl are suggestion Overkilled PSU.

For a CFX/SLI with Intel processors 6950/560 you get a 650w PSU (corsair/xfx/antec/seasonic)
For CFX/SLI 6970/570 you get a 750w PSU (same brands)

For a 580/6990 you get a 550w PSU (same Brands)

That's my contribution here
