|Have you ever wondering what it would be like to have a transparent smartphone? We’re starting to see the first steps taken with development of transparent transistors and displays but what about the battery that powers it? Researcher Yi Cui from Stanford University thought the same thing and has come up with a design for a fully transparent battery. Cui thinks this design has the ability store about half as much energy as a standard battery, but they have a lot of work ahead of them before this becomes a reality. Right now the prototype is about as powerful as a NiCad battery, but Cui says he and his team should be able to improve that by an order of magnitude by reducing inefficiencies in the prototype design and layering batteries one atop the other. The team is very optimistic though, and expects to see transparent batteries hitting the market within two to four years. Check out the video below to see how the battery is made and to see it in action.|
This is amazing and I can't wait to get my hands on a transparent smartphone, but could you imagine trying to find it when it gets lost?
