16:9 vs 16:10

Thread Starter
Do you prefer 1920x1080 (16:9) or 1920x1200 (16:10) for your desktop and gaming needs? And is 16:9 the new standard or is 16:10?

I'm assuming that 1920x1200 would require a bit more on the GPU to pump out those extra vertical pixels?

I hope I can get by just fine with 1920x1080. I'm coming from 1280x1024 so I should be seeing a pretty good increase in width, just not height.. But maybe I should have gone with 16:10? Thoughts / opinions?

Thanks,
My System

I prefer 1280x1024. No need for uber gfx card setup to max a lot of games.

However, if it's between 16:9 and 16:10, I'd pick 16:10--more screen real estate to work with.

1920x1080 is the standard for HD movies, so if you play it on a 1920x1200 monitor either you have to stretch the picture vertically to fill the screen or you have the black bars on the top and bottom.

A lot of gamers prefer 1920x1200 though since it gives them that little bit more visible area that may be important in the games they play.

A search of the forums would be best bet. There are pros/cons to each, and ultimately preference. I prefer 16:9 due to media/move preference, which is the standard. Contrasting 16:10 which is great for viewing docs/sites/work.

I'd prefer 16:10 as I do not mind if there are black lines across the top or bottom when watching a movie.

There are already multiple threads about this subject. Please take a look at them and post in them if you have anything to say.

This is actually forum policy. These kinds of threads end up flame wars where half of the people shout random crap without knowing what they are talking about. And as such many directions by mods have specified to rather use old threads of these issues rather than start new ones.
