Small cooling question

Thread Starter
Hopefully I will be upgrading to a 2500k (If and when the motherboard gets here) and will need a new CPU cooler. My dark knight is the old version so doesn't support socket 1155, i can get a bracket kit for it, but its half the cost of a new cooler. I was thinking about selling my dk to my friend for the cost of the bracket (the socket is not an issue to him, he is on a 775), then buying a new cooler, that way I only have to pay the same amount as the bracket, and he gets a cheap new cooler.

This means i can get either another dark knight, but the w version, so comes with the bracket, or I can go for another similarly priced cooler.

Must cost under £30, and be 1155 compatible. So far the only cooler I've found that isn't the dark knight at this price range is the gelid tranquillo, Is that as good as the dark knight?

What about Cooler Master Hyper 212+? IMHO, It's the best for price-performance ratio. It's under US$ 30 down here..

Thats double my budget. I've noticed that the price for the corsair water coolers in the uk is the number, but in pounds, so the h50 is around £50, and the h70 is around £70. (h100 is the exception)

I don't have anywhere to mount the rad easily and also there is the risk of it leaking, but that's not my main reason for avoiding it.

Another contender, it fits in price range, but is it better than the xigmatek or gelid?

Yes there is, the ACK-I5361.

Edit: But the later ones (the s1283w) have it included. Mine is a s1283v and so is the older version without the bracket.

I've read somewhere here in OCN that 212+ vs Dark Knight is on a level. Is it true that the bracket of the DK will cost you half of the price? What a shame. If you can get it for free, I will definitely stay with DK.

But if you need a new HSF, get the 212+ and set it on push-pull pressure. You'll never regret it...

Yes, Roughly. a bracket comes to at least £11 or so (because delivery is at least £4 of that), and few places have them in stock, even fewer that are reputable. Its worth the extra few £ to get a new cooler, since a new one goes in-between £20 and £30 for one of this level.

That's 2 suggestions for the 212+ then.
