CHV no boot, DRAM_LED blinking

Thread Starter
Well, the physical install went well, although the port layout isn't great for my setup...the GTX465 is too big, and pushes a bit against the USB and power/led prongs. And the Aegir is a hair's breadth from the heatsinks.

Not that it matters...I'm typing from my netbook thanks to a blinking DRAM_LED. I knew my ram was not on the compatibility list, but I didn't actually think it wouldn't work.

They are 4x4g 1333 GSkills, 7-7-7-21. I need to find some other ram to test to make sure. 4g 1600 GSkills at 9-9-9-24 is listed, which my sticks run at just fine, but it doesn't seem to like mine.

That or I somehow shorted all 4 sticks simultaneously, which I doubt.

Any suggestions would be greatly welcome. I'm not going through the trouble of swapping the mainboard a second time unless I absolutely have too.

[edit] One thing of note...I don't have any 4 prong power cables...none were included with my PS, so I left EAX12V_1 undone (at the top, above the cpu). Could this be a cause for the situation? I do have power to the "EZ Plug", although I am only running a single GPU.

Yes Bob, move the power connector to the 8 pin EATX connector.

Should work fine with the 8 pin EATX12-1 pluged in.

EDIT: my bad, I misread your statment.

Make sure the ram is fully setted in the slots, "they are" diffacult to get in properly. Try 2 sticks in the red slots.

20+4 is connected, 8 pin is connected, 4 prong flat is connected to the EZ plug, buy I don't have a 2nd 4 square to plug in the _1 slot...does that make more sense?

I tried each stick individually in slot 1 and 4 (8 iterations) to no avail...they did seem to be a tricky fit, but I thought I had them...I will test that again.

ok, Bob

I just switched to my C5F and unpluged the 4 pin EATX12 connector above the CPU.

System booted OK.

So, you can put that thought out of your mind.

The board will run without it.

I appreciate that...it really helps narrow down the issue. I will see about getting a different ram stick to test.

Have you tried the "MemOk!" button? After you press it once, leave it alone.
(I know it's already flashing, but it may have failed to load the tests)

The flashing LED is the MemOK running testing cycles and will continue this until it finds the right settings. It will flash faster with each cycle and do this continuously until you remove the power.

Each MemOK "failsafe" test runs 30 seconds long. If it fails, it will go to the next test settings another 30 seconds, then the next and on and on until you remove power.

Also make sure the RAM is fully seated, it should snap into place.

Well then...I DID push that button from the very first power up, but I did not give it nearly that much time to load. I didn't see anything on that in the manual.

Damn, wish I'd read this before I came into work...now I have to wait anxiously all day to see if this whole ordeal is caused by my impatience.

If I leave it running the cycles, will it select the best one and boot itself, or will it simply load the best settings it found when I pull power?

[edit] side bar...the light next to the MemOK button never lit up, only the blinking DRAM_LED...I wish there was a more accurate troubleshooting guide to be found...I hate bothering people chasing ghosts.
