This doesn't make sense. An in game texture doesn't need to be 1080p to make full use of a 1080p monitor. Most textures don't take up the whole screen, they are optimised to only be as big as they need to be. No point texturing a tin can with a 1080p size texture when a 64x64 will look identical from the viewpoint of the player.

Textures are usually square so neither 720p nor 1080p are typical texture resolutions. I'm thinking he must have been tired when he posted that.

The main reason that the iPhone 4s screen is so good is that you can't see the actual pixels on it because of the insanely high DPI, you don't need AA then as your eyes can't actually see the individual pixels anyway.

Ok... We get that. Now can you address the point of cost and performance or are you just sidestepping the issue? I'd love a 50000x40000 resolution 24 inch monitor, but even if I could somehow find one, AND afford it, there isnt a gpu solution in the world that would make games playable on it.

such a resolution will probably be possible when organic leds come into play ... and for them to come into play well that means that someone has to develop them ... and if everybody is content with blurred frames well then there will never be screens like that

as far as gpus go ... 20(ish) years ago my 286 didnt even have a gpu

also personally i dont like the fxaa images from hocp, they seem blurred like if i put my glasses off

Actually the resolution we need isn't too far away, there's already prototype cameras and the like for it. UHDTV would give you a 400 PPI at 22".

And for GPUs, well, we're having to worry less and less about shader power, plus memory bandwidth is going up more and more, add in the ultra cheap memory we can get today and it won't be too far off before we can easily have games at that res on PC, before the next generation of consoles is over at least.
