How do I add more fans?

Thread Starter
I've recently started my very first computer build and I purchased a Mobo with only 8 fan connectors, the Asus P8Z68-V PRO. My concern is that I only have enough plug-ins to accommodate the standard fans my case comes with (HAFx), and don't have enough plug-ins to add more (Secondary top 200mm fan, and both VGA fans, 120mm and 80mm respectively.)

2 x CPU Fan connector(s) (4 -pin)
2 x Chassis Fan connector(s) (1 x 4 -pin, 1 x 3 -pin)
2 x Power Fan connector(s) (3 -pin)

I'm going to using the Noctua NH-D14, so both of my CPU fan connectors are used up, leaving 4 for my case. How do I make it so I can use more fans inside my case?

You want to buy Molex to fan header adapters.

GPU fans don't need to be plugged into the mobo

Molex is what powers HDD's right? (New to the whole CPU build scene, so correct me if I'm wrong) I'm going to use a Corsair Professional Series HX 750 PSU, and I'm going to have an SSD Boot drive and a Samsung F3 1TB drive for data. Will I have a Molex left over for the fan header adapter? Newegg doesn't say how many Molex connectors the PSU has, unless they word them differently.

MetalBeerSolid, the HAFx comes with a shroud that covers the GPU as well as a support bracket, both of which can hold a fan to spit air onto the GPU, figure it can't hurt overclocking.

Right on both accounts. You should easily have at least one molex left over to power your fans.

Look on the corsair website, and with only two drives you will have tons of molex left.

Anyone recommend a specific brand, trying to sort through all the different types of adapters Newegg has.

They should all be the same, it's a pretty basic item. Most case fans come with them.

Oh I didn't know case fans come with splitters, I'll order some anyway though just in case. Does anyone know anything small that would break or make a computer build, fans or not. I didn't even think about fan splitters till I realized my Mobo didn't support all the slots, so if you know anything else I may have forgotten please speak up.

Ooops I thought you meant 3-fan connector to 4-pin molex, like this, but you actually want this, do you?

In any case, I think the brand should not matter anyway. I have a Haf 912, and the case fans already come with the first adapters, you may daisy chain them (using a single molex from the PSU), but you should not worry, you'll not run out of molex. Hard and optical drives use SATA power connectors, so you'll have plenty of free molex.

According to Corsair's website (under technical specs), you'll have 8 molex connectors. More than enough for now

Have fun!
