T-Mobile unlimited data plan question

Thread Starter
Hello OCN, I am currently out of state and I have been downloading my shows with wifi tethering on my phone before I left LA and after I arrive in Dallas. I was wondering at what point do speeds get capped? I know the t-mobile guy told me a specific amount and I would not have "4g" speeds anymore but I cant seem to remember anymore.

Here is my LA results.

Test Date: Jul 23, 2011 10:23:20 am
Connection Type: Hsdpa
Server: Los Angeles, CA
Download: 7.60 Mbps
Upload: 1.80 Mbps
Ping: 73 ms

I get about 4Mbps in dallas and I have had so far a constant 400-1Mbps download speed.

I was just curious at what point I should stop downloading so reading books off my google docs is not super slow

Thanks in advance .

I don't think they advertise specifics on that kind of thing. But I have read things about data throttling, I hear somewhere around 3-4GB is when it starts.

Even if you do hit that point I really don't think the throttling will be so bad as to make your book downloading unbearable.

I added an extra part to my post. lol Even when you hit that point I really don't think it will effect your book downloading. You might notice increased buffering time in loading YouTube videos in HQ and loading large web pages. But your book reading/ downloading should be fine.

True, but I have tried loading a regular txt file from my e-mail when I was trying to help out my friend on the phone, and ( I had checked ealier was about 1Mbps) it took for ever! I just cant stand waiting for the page to load when it would take me less to read it. I guess Ill have to deal with it, It seems I cant even load youtube vids on my laptop anymore . My download was almost done, or its probably my signal strength.

Hmm. Well if you notice a difference then I am sorry to hear it. I don't know if I pass my data limits but I am pretty sure Verizon throttles data also. I stream a lot of music on Pandora and Slacker. I also browse some forums on my phone as well but I have never really noticed and BAD slow downs....

It's hard to judge really.... too bad there is nothing we can do about it. Darn these cell companies!!!

Wish I had 4g. Vz 3g is so slow here! Sometimes it's slower than 56k.
