Sick of paying for expensive data plans

Thread Starter
So I get a phone upgrade (or shall I say downgrade) sometime in the next 2 months. I'm fed up with paying the ridiculous and always increasing prices of data plans; all I ever do is text and call people. Seldom do I go on the internet, however I do use Facebook quite a bit; I could definitely live without it.

Anywho; lets get to the point. I want a phone & plan that doesn't have to have data/internet on it. Just a simple phone that can call and text. I'd prefer it to have a QWERTY keyboard for ease of texting. Do they even make phones like this anymore?

The whole reason I want this is because right now I have a POS Motorola Cliq. God knows why they even made this device as it cant even handle it's own native software. The phone lags constantly, freezes every other process, and is very frustrating to use (to the point where I stopped texting overall). Mind you, I dont have a single app on it, other than FB so I have no idea what's causing the lag other than the processor not being able to handle the android software.

My question is.. Is it really worth having to keep paying for data plans seeing as the price on data coverage keeps going up every year. I remember paying $25 for unlimited text/data on my sidekickLX, now I pay $35 for the same on my cliq, who knows what prices are today. I know thats still considered cheap since I have friends on iPhone4 paying much more for the same features I have.

Sorry for this entire wall of text, I just want a clear and concise answer. Sum it up, Looking for a phone that has an affordable plan. Works without lagging/freezing. I dont have anything against smart phones, but unless the plan is cheap, I cant afford to have one.

Get the newest phone with a qwerty keyboard. That does not have data.

And if your are lucky, you can get one with 5 or 10 dollar data that will let you go on facebook.

Samsung Intercept on Virgin Mobile. $35 a month for unlimited text/data (actually starting next month they will throttle if you use more than 2.5gb a month) and 300 minutes . It's an Android smartphone, and definitely not top of the line at all. But it does have the full QWERTY keyboard like you want. Virgin Mobile follows Sprint's network so it has pretty good coverage, at least in my area. They also have other better smartphones you can put on the same plan, but they lack a keyboard.
