For those of you that want to know the actual reason, you can read about the price fixing lawsuits against the ram manufacturers years ago. They were price gouging us and got totally caught doing it. Remember the $100 2 x 512mb ddr and ddr2 kits back in the day? They were raping us.

If you recall, DDR2 was selling at below costs at the end of 2007 and into 2008. This was due to supply and demand. Companies were producing too much due to expectations of Vista and demand was down due to global financial crisis.
