Looking for some help on a fan choice...

Hey guys, I'm wanting to add a push fan to my Silver Arrow, I can't use the 140mm fans it comes with on the front of it due to ram clearance, so I'm looking at 120mm fans. Whatever fans I use will be going at 100%, I don't use a fan controller, so I would prefer they be sub 40db. I have a couple 37db fans in my case right now that run full speed 24/7 and I'm perfectly ok with that sound level. Here's the fans I was looking at:
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/12379/fan-813/Delta_120_x_25mm_Extreme_High-Speed_Fan_-_8650_CFM_WFB1212H.html?id=pcKxqBHe&mv_pc=9360

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/10455/fan-689/Yate_Loon_120mm_x_25mm_Fan_-_Open_Chassis_D12SH-12.html?id=pcKxqBHe&mv_pc=9357
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/12363/fan-809/Scythe_Gentle_Typhoon_120mm_x_25mm_Fan_-_3000_RPM_D1225C12B7AP-29.html?id=pcKxqBHe&mv_pc=9358
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/11637/fan-745/Aerocool_Shark_Black_Edition_120mm_x_25mm_High_Air_Pressure_Fan.html?id=pcKxqBHe&mv_pc=9359

I've even been thinking of swapping the 2 TY-140's for something that pushes more air too, because quietness isn't a concern for me. If I replace the the TY-140s then I can use 140mm fans in their place, so any recommendation for that size is cool also. Thanks for your help.

I've heard a lot of good things about Scythe Gentle Typhoon fans. The 3k version is loud thou so maybe buy the 2k instead.

I would choose either the Aerocool or gentle typhoon, both are high quality fans with good construction but the Aerocool is the most silent and has same airflow has the typhoon and its cheaper.

I've not seen a 2k Gentle Typhoon, but the 1850k doesn't push enough cfm imo.

Any idea as to it's static pressure? The Silver Arrow has pretty dense fins so I believe a higher static pressure will be pretty beneficial.

I would not worry about that my Xigmatek xlf 120mm 's push more than enough air even at low rpm.

PS. the cogage Arrow and thermalright silver arrow are the same cooler

Hi mate

I tested a quite a few fans

Each fan was connected to the Cogage Cooler, the other side was my Anemometer. It has to push air though the cooler to the Anemometer and my multimeter setup as well, with the max. db for me being at 20db.

Note that the ball bearing fans i tested, all become too noisy over 1500rpm, noise to velocity. There is only one sleeve one that comes in at 2000rpm and the AP-30 matches it @ 2150rpm

Fans i have tested
Antec TriCool
Akasa Apache Black Super Silent PWM Fan
Akasa Viper PWM Fan
Cooler Master SickleFlow Blue LED
CoolerMaster Silent Blue LED
CoolerMaster XtraFlo PWM Fan
Noiseblocker MultiFrame Ultra Quiet
Noctua Fan NF-P14
Scythe Kama Flow 2 EX-FDB
Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F
Scythe S-FLEX SFF21H
Scythe Gentle Typhoon AP-30
Silverstone FM121
Thermalright CoGage PWM
Thermalright TR TY-140 PWM Fan
Thermalright X-Silent 140
Thermaltake 230mm Blue LED Silent Fan
Thermaltake TT-1225 TurboFan
Thermaltake TT-1425 Case Fan
Scythe Ultra Kaze 3000rpm 120
Yate Loon Case Fan D12SM-12

More details of the fans in the XL file. How to read the XL file, all categories are manufacturer specs, except for these 2 categories

"RPM Quiet @ 44mm" this means it was tested though the cooler and the Anemometer was on the other side of the cooler at a distance being 44mm, and at 20db, so they got undervolted by the fan controller except for a couple they were at max

"Max Volume @ 44mm" Fans tested same as above but without fan controller, full 12v for max rpm's. Not important this category, its the one above that matters

Cant help you out on the 140's im going to be testing them soon in the future, i need a few good ones myself at around 1700rpm, some in that list are 140's but i need some of the better ones to have it more conclusive for myself any way

Link in sig, has most the same info above but might be worded better?

The Gentle typhoon has 5,715 mmH20 pressure .
The fans are great for radiators, very powerfull, just be carefull with fingers.

Thanks for the info guys, +rep.

Right now I'm heavily leaning toward the AP-29 due to the decent cfm and excellent static pressure as shown in that link. Also the fact that it is sub 37db, which is icing on the cake. I think if I end up going with the AP-29s that I'll try using 3 of them on the Silver Arrow.
