Nvidia GTX 570 SLi or ATI 6970 Crossfire configuration?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I have been trying to decide on which video card configuration to purchase. An ASUS 570 and ASUS 6970 both cost the same amount here, and I want to go crossfire/sli as I am looking to run at 5760x1080 resolution. Would either crossfire/sli setup of these two cards be capable of running most games at this resolution?
Thanks

For that high resolution, the extra VRAM on the 6970 makes it the far better choice. 6970s perform very similarly to 570s at lower resolutions anyway, but factoring in the resolution you plan to use the 6970 will pull far ahead with it's 2GB of VRAM vs the 1.28GB on the 570.

I would go 6970. They scale great in crossfire and use less power than the 570's. Plus, if your going dual card setup, the extra 2gb of vram would be more beneficial down the line if you get go dual screens since you will have the GPU horse power to do it.

6970 crossfire is much better at that resolution because of extra vram

I'd check out

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/GPU11

and run the benchmark view for both of them. But to be honest, the ATI cards do handle a triple screen better than the Nvidia cards.

You've forgotten about the 2.5GB 570's that are out now, that evens out the playing field somewhat.

The only reason I'd get the 6970's is purely for it's triple screen support. But as far as performance of cards go, the GTX570, either flavor, is more powerful.

Thanks for all your responses, I'd really like to get 6970, but I am having driver issues with my current 6950 setup which is deterring me from getting one. 11.6 CCC BSOD constantly, until the 11.6b hotfix fixed it. Then the 11.7 released earlier today is being problematic too, as it installs fine and acts as though its installed, but CCC does not show up, even if I manually launch it it just doesn't work
