Computer will not start after OC attempt - Page 2

O.o it powered on with the vrm pins removed, but of course does not boot and displays the fault code on the mobo LCD. Looks like 3+1 phase if I'm looking at it right. Above the RAM it says CPU phase and has 4 little rectangles.

MSI VRM failures are incredibly common.

Sorry to say this but it is confirm that the vrm is the culprit. MSI 4+1 phase strike again.

Well it's good to know what happened, at least. 4+1 it is.

I really appreciate the quick responses, everybody. So we're thinking a new Mobo will address the issue? Any recommendations? I apparently don't know how to pick 'em XD

Thats what I figured, it is a shame they would put such a lousy mosfet on a board of that price... I'm sorry dude, I'd say go to a different mobo manufacture.

How much would you like to spend? I can hook you up with some good recomendations.

In my fragile state I think I could knee-jerk 150-200 onto my credit card and only mildly regret it later.
When I was first building I had my eye on either this or the Asus Crosshair Formula. But if you know any that definitely won't have this issue I'd gladly listen.

Yup, I had a very similar experience with my MSI board.
The did RMA it no problem though.
You should RMA it and sell it to make up some of the cost of a better board.

The new Msi 990fx gd80 load up with 8+2 phase. It would be a good choice since the new 9xx series Gigabyte have vdrop problem.
Asus CV and sabertooth would be a fine choice as well.

I hadn't considered that. It's only about 5 months old. I'll see if it can get exchanged. Definitely gonna eBay/craigslist it to buy a different brand, though.
