get another computer and put ubuntu on a usb drive.

go into bios on netbook and arrange the boot so that way it loads USB first, then it should run off the USB and the ubuntu startup should come up, just click install and follow instructions.

bam youre done.

ubuntu ftw~

keep in mind, it can be a little daunting trying out linux for the first time, but ubuntu one makes it a bit easier plus theres a mass of forums on the net and this very forum for any questions asked!

good luck

Ubuntu is great because of its GUI, its just so usable. Just a ***** to get wireless drivers for. I keep it dual bootable on my desktop just in case i miss it.

ppl crap on ubuntu cause it carries the "noob" stigma...i also think there is a bit of jealously cause of its success over older and better distro's like debian and fedora.

@OP, i'd imagine you've already grabbed the iso? i would've honestly suggested a different variant of ubuntu atm...like xubuntu 11.04...unity the default DE for ubuntu 11.04 is buggy and doesn't perform well imho on igp's like that of the intels.

as for extra advice, just be opened minded and try to understand the differences between windows and linux and embrace them

Yeah, I'll admit Ubuntu is good for people who are starting off. It really doesn't have super bloat, but it is n00b. You can get down and dirty but you aren't forced too, that is why I shun it a tad. However I will openly admit it's a great "never used linux" distro, it will always be on the top of that list. [edit] Mint might actually be #1 now, since it's literally everything out of the box. =P

Back with version 7, I couldn't get it the madwifi or ndiswrapper drivers to work with my wireless adapter (D-link) so I just erased the partition .

A few years later I tried it again, but with version 9 or 10, and it worked "out of the box" (although there is no box ) with my adapter.

Seems like over time, they add more drivers for different wireless cards.
