Sell 5870 then Upgrade? What DO!?

Hey guys, I currently have a 5870 and know they are reselling for around $250~

What I want to do is upgrade and pay using neweggs no finance 6-12 months and get a nice upgrade. I am starting to commentate on videos so frapsing is pretty important (also getting a ssd with my purchase).

My question is... since the 5870 is not being sold anymore, I cannot purchase one unless its completely upfront. Which I am wiery about for some reason.

SO, My question is. What do? Thinking about selling and getting a GTX 580?

Do you want another 5870 or a different card?

I want a different card sorry. Although, if my 100% best option is to get another 5870 then... so be it. Although I have heard people running into problems with gaming on the 5870s.

Why do you want to sell your 5870? It's still not a bad card these days. And if you lag while recording with fraps, make sure fraps outputs your video on another harddrive. It will increase performance while recording greatly. What type of problems are you talking about? Yes I've had the GSOD but it was easily solved by disabling hardware monitoring programs.

Figured if I do not sell it now, the value will only drop? Also really excited for BF3 and want a upgrade. Getting a SSD to solve the frapsing issue (most likely have the game on the SSD and record to HDD)

Small problems really, screen flickers n what not. Did not read too much about the problems really. So the consensus is I should get another 5870? Or just wait for the 7k series or something.

btw, my rig is scary similar to yours.

Well not entirely from I've seen. Since they don't make them anymore, the prices have gone up. But in couple of years yes the price will go down but this year, they been high priced everywhere I've seen.(350-600). And the getting the SSD and recoding to the HDD will solve your fraps issue. If your screen flickers, I take you tried updating your driver and disabled any OC's and disabled any monitoring software? Are you running 2 screen? If you do decide to get another 5870, you will almost double your current performance because the they scale beautifully. That is if you don't have a CPU bottleneck. And nice! You should fill out your rig in the "User Cp" so we can help you out more!

I'm trying to ditch both my 5870's for a 6990 or a GTX 590 simply because I want to back down to a single card but not lose performance...so far things arn't going well lol.

No problem. Welcome to OCN. And if you have a question about SSD's there is a HDD section here the forums and people will be glad to help. I cant because I don't know much about SSD's.
