Hello Everyone,

I have been looking on these forums for a while now trying to decide all the right components for my first build before I pull the trigger. A little bit of background: I'm currently working on my PhD, a lot of it is dealing with 3D imaging, so I'm going to need a good amount of RAM. When not doing work, I will be gaming (BF3, SC2, Crysis 2, WoW etc). Please let me know your thoughts on the build, and any constructive criticism is welcome. Remember this is my first build so I'm still a little new at this. Thanks in advance!

Even though that RAM would work, because it's 3 sticks, it'll make the motherboard run in single channel instead of dual channel (Sandy bridge mobos dont have triple channel)

Instead get a 16GB kit like this one : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231441

Everything else looks good. The accessories part is really up to you.

That sounds good, I do not have a lot of knowledge about RAM but would 1600Mhz ram be better or is the 1333 enough?

You'll probably hear 1600, but in reality it makes little difference. Get the 1333.

Power Supply
Disregard this. The AX850 will be cheaper and will work perfectly for 580 SLI. If you plan on getting a third 580 then you should go with a 1000W. Also the HX1000 is a pretty mediocre 1000W power supply compared to some of the ones out today that are in the same price range. When it came out it was very good but it just isn't too great relatively.

RAM
Sandy bridge runs in dual channel instead of triple channel. You should look into a nice 2x4 1600 Cas 8 set like this. Unless you know that you are doing some heavy duty rendering then I wouldn't bother getting any more then that. Also 1600 RAM is faster then 1333 RAM obviously and will net you better benchmarks slightly.

Sound Card
I personally have never been too big of a fan of Creative sound cards but here is another option for a bit cheaper that will give you some incredible sound out of those cans.

My computer at work has 12GB of memory and sometimes I run out of memory so I think I'll go with the 4x4 1600Mhz RAM. I chose the G.Skills X Series but are the Corsair Vengence better?

I don't plan on adding another card but you never know, so I'll probably stick with the 1000W PSU.

I think I'm going to get the Swan M10 speakers (or if anyone has any other suggestions) so I don't know if that has any weight in to what sound card I should get. Thanks to everyone who has posted so far, getting so excited for this build. Keep the suggestions coming!

Since you are working on your PhD (I just finished mine) you might want to consider getting a proper RAID card and running RAID 5 (or 6) for some redundancy. Losing data while working on a doctorate can be one of the worst things (it happened to a colleague of mine). It would probably cost at least a grand but may be worth it.
