Case Paint Job

Thread Starter
Hey all, I posted this in the 360 Mod's thread but I did not want to hijack the thread, so I also made my own thread.
I have painted my 360 case using the Krylon Fusion spray paint & it came out great except for the front.
I have botches of the paint, I guess from overspraying & it looks pretty ugly.
Is there anyway I can remove the paint from the whole case with paint thinner/laquer & start fresh?

Thanks

You should start sanding with 500-800 grit sand paper on the case once you get it all even that should be fine. Try hanging your pieces and spraying from a distance so you dont over do it. Remember take your time and do light coats of paint every 60 minutes. Do 2 light coats of primer and then probably 3 coats of your paint. Wait a day or 2 in between the primer and paint so that you are sure its dry. Your patience will pay off.

At Lowes you can go to the paint department and buy a product called Formby's antique furniture restorer. It is a paint stripper/remover. It is probably not safe to use on plastic though. The thing I would do is to take a fine grade sandpaper (400 or higher) and lightly sand the surface of the whole thing. this will allow you to reprimer the paint job. Then you can lightly sand the primer and apply a new paint job. Use 800 grit sandpaper between coats of paint and you will come out with a glass smooth paint job.

Great tip right here if you're patient. I would wait 3 days after the primer to make sure it was absolutely dry before sanding.

Depending on how thick you put the paint on, you could just sand it down a bit so it is nice and scuffed up, nothing less than 600 grit, again depending how thick your paint is, if need use 400 grit first than go to 600 or 800, make sure all it nice and smooth, clean after each sanding, than use 1000 grit as final to ensure smoothnest. With the paint you put on and not removeing it totaly you wont need primer.

Other wise your choice is to use a paint stripper, get as much as possible off than back to sanding, again 600-1000 grit, than use a primer.

Hang if possible, use 2 light coats of primer (light) just so it covers all on second coat. Than dust off after it drys completely. Than paint with 2-3 light coats again, only wait until a few minutes-10-20, if paint drys too much each coat will not blend in and bond proppperly. Than use a clear coat after paint drys for 24-36 hours if you want.

Stripping is out, way to risky. Like other said wet sand with 400 grit paper and repaint. Use light coats till covered then spray one wet coat to maintain gloss.

Click on "How to Paint" in my sig.

Why is stripping out? They make strippers that will not hurt plastics-lol. Just go to AUTOMOTIVE store, lots of parts on cars and trucks are made of plastic and painted-and some need to be stripped.

Sanding is your best bet,and yes it will take time to get it the way you want. Automotive paints are better any way.

wow, thanks for all the responses.
I can just use my dremel for the sanding part right?
I'm not sure how much grit is the sanding accessory, but I'll take a look tonight. I can just sand out the parts that have the blotchy areas & just repaint them? Instead of doing the whole thing right?

Thanks all!
