2. so how should i advertise, or whats the best way to get customers.
3. is this type of thing legal without some sort of license.
4. would be easier to try and get a job at a computer store instead?

Thanks guys.

I wasnt sure which section to post this in, so if its in the wrong spot, could a mod move it to the right spot? thanks
1. Advertise how you can make them a computer twice as good at half the price, show them some highlights and compare it to their current system. Then tell them that its built with higher quality since its hand assembled.
2. Print out flyers and put them in mailboxes, or put an ad in the paper.
3.Sure, theres nothing wrong with this. You could grab your A+ certification and say youre certified, but thats not necessary. Also make sure to report your profit on your taxes.
4. Youd make less money. If you keep your current job AND do this as a side job youd make more money, and have more fun/get more experience.

Don't advertise building computers, the word "custom" is much more catchy and intriguing.

It's still difficult for me at age 17 to find people who think I actually know what I'm doing. Most people I meet are sceptical. Which is why I took a course at TAFE, to have some form of certification that says "this guy knows his stuff"

Good luck.

Okay, the thing is alot of people on this site have tried building pcs as a business but found it to be VERY unprofitable. People usually don't trust a stranger to build their PC unless they are a friend or are a well known company. This is just how it is and unless you start a company you can't get around it. Other issues include warranty and customer service. Customers won't trust a buying a new computer from a random guy because they are scared they won't have access to warranty and customer services as opposed to buying from dell/alienware. Also note that companies such as Alienware and ibuypower.com have a much lower inventory cost than you since they buy their stuff in bulk or get OEM discounts. They also use cheap generic parts in order to make a profit. If you were to make a pc you can't cut down on costs as they can and also customers on craiglist or even friends of friends will low ball you.

My solution is instead of building pcs, I suggest you start a side business to repair pcs. This is often much much more profitable, one of my friends does this while going to college and it pays his tuition and other expenses.

I hope this helps.

I love my high school bus drivers. It was like I was riding a limo those 4 years of high school.
