Wireless Bridge question

Thread Starter
Got a few questions for you guys.

I want to run a wireless bridge setup to get rid of my ethernet cable running through the house (can't move it elsewhere).

Here's a graph:

Modem=========>WRT54G2 - - - - - - - - - > Router 2======> gaming rig

(double line is wired and single line is wireless)

1. What router should I get for router 2? I was looking at the Asus RT-N10+ and then flash it with DD-WRT.

2. Should I upgrade my existing WRT54G2 to wireless N?

3. Will I get better performance in online gaming than a PCI card???

Thanks

I have a D-Link DIR-615 (N) as my main router and an old WRT54GS as the client repeater bridge that I flashed with DD-WRT.

It works great.

You could even get another Linksys like the one you have, provided it will take DD-WRT.

Edit: it would be best if you could go N with both routers.

Can't you just get a wireless card for your gaming rig?You wouldn't need router2,unless you are trying to get additional distance?

Do feel a difference between wired and client bridge?

Well I tried with a PCI card and I had bad results, like lag spikes in games, while wired works very well.

You will most likely want to get both N Routers that support IPv6.
My pair of Netgear WNR3500L-100NAS work great in repeater mode,
Plus you can pop an open source firmware on them if you want

Any reason you want two SOHO devices?
It will just create more network latency.

Although you could have have a firewall so it be.

Modem-------Firewall(Untangle etc)---(DHCP turn off and static IPs for both) ---Wireless SOHO_____Endpoint Devices here.

Although Cisco has devices that do the similar function of Untangle but more expensive and your going to need some experience set up cisco equipment.

i use a wap54g for that in the garage
its running dd-wrt as a repeater/bridge

works pretty good, but its lan speed is cut down to 54m/s
makes no difference for gaming on it tho

you could use one of these $20
EDIMAX BR-6258n IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wireless Broadband Nano Router, Small Size Easy To Carry, With WAN & LAN Ports Supported It Also Works As Wireless Adapter To Turn Wired Network Device Into Wireless Connection
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833315095
