Im thinking of putting 2 of these in raid 0

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148441, 2x 64gb crucial SSD's.

, and I have 2 velociraptors, I would like to put those in raid 0 as well, for the main storage, for about 500gb

What do you guys think?

Just so you know, the 780i does not support AHCI. That chipset is known to limit SSD performance.... especially RAID SSDs.

Besides RAID only improves sequential performance. You generally are better off with a single larger SSD with better performance due to internal NAND configuration.
Once again...

Raiding SSD's is a waste of time in my opinion...there will be near to no speed increase at all and more chance of the whole lot going down on you.

I have two 60+Gb SSD's. I have one as my main OS drive and one as an install path for programs and games. Just giving you ideas...

Having SSDs in RAID0 is still silly because RAID0 disables TRIM.

Its funny tho, i seem to remember some tests showing very nice increases in raid 0 for these guys. Some guy booted up his pc in like 3 seconds , with a couple dozen of these ssd drives

You will not regret getting a SSD! Getting one was the most noticeable upgrade to a PC I have ever had. They really aren't practical price wise for storage yet, so I would use the SSD in conjunction with a cheap storage HDD.

RAID improves sequential performance.

Boot time is mainly limited by random performance. SSD random performance is 50-100 times better than a HDD.

i think this is the vid you are referring to...
i am also wondering about the difference with ssd's in raid 0... i have had several ppl tell me that there would be bottlenecks that would prevent any major speed increase... i'm not sure what would be holding it back...

but since raid 0 disables trim then i would probly just stick to one ssd on sata III and be done with it

Duckie is 100% correct. Get a bigger, single SSD to take care of booting and OS. You'll have a nice chunk remaining for your favourite games and such.

I just have a cheapy 1TB WD green in there to take care of automatic backup every two weeks, which I don't notice because it runs 4 in the morning.
