Need some cooling help with HIS Ati Radeon HD 6870 please!

Thread Starter
Okay so with 40% fan speed (reference card) I get about 42-44C idle and 68-72C load temps. If I go to about 50%, this drops to like 66C-68C load...

However, its LOUD AS ****!

Can someone help me figure out how to find and implement aftermarket cooling to my card? I've seen some 2 fan options that seem awesome and people claim their cards stay at like 30C idle/ 50C load.... this would be awesome!

So any help pls?!

Put it on auto fan speed. 72C load is nothing. 90-100c is where you should start worrying. And GPU temperature is also dependent on case airflow, number of fans, ambient temperatures.

I'm going to buy a 140mm side intake (to replace a 120mm 40cfm fan... which actually blows like no air in rofl) and a good 120mm exhaust since I have a similar 120mm **** fan in the rear.

Do you think that will help lower temps? I bought 2 CM 200mm megaflow fans and I'm seeing like 10C lower temps.. if i replace those 2 other fans will I see more improvement?

But you really don't need unless you're getting really hot temperatures. 72C on load is not hot, that is normal operation.

Is it okay then if I run at 72C for like 6 hrs straight?

I don't wanna ruin my card lol

Yes, you could run it 24/7 if you wanted too. They are made to run at these temperatures. But if you start getting 90-100C on load then you should invest in some more fans or bring down your ambient temperatures. Also clean it regularly to avoid dust build up. With the dust inside the graphics card tends to get hotter since its blocking airflow. You can clean it by getting a vacuum or compressed air and just tape the fan and let it blow out the air from the graphics card's air duct.

Buy a thermalright hr-01 imo. Cheap and they have a rear mount functionality, that installation is 5-6 celcius better than normal gpu-heatpipe-fan direction. Simply, I'm suggesting you get the best alternative which is a heatsink capable of mounting towards the back of the pcb.
The cpu may heat a bit, but when I experienced it, we were talking about 4890s.
If you are wondering about the gpu temperature, I regard this technique king of the hill.
