[DT] Apple in Violation of HTC's Patents - Page 6

A lot of fanboys are going to lose sleep over this.
Totally awesome. For Apple trying to come after HTC over some ridiculous patents, I hope HTC comes back and RAPES them in court for legit patents.

The acquisition strengthens HTC’s technology leadership and extends its IP portfolio with the addition of 235 patents and the pending applications, including those related to graphics visualization technologies.

Flush with cash, but not a fan of spending it on litigation? We hear you, and apparently so does HTC. The Taiwanese firm announced today it'll purchase S3 Graphics and its patent portfolio from VIA for a cool $300 million, giving the smartphone maker 265 new weapons in its IP arsenal. Also part of the deal is a perpetual license to the patents' former owner, so that the chipset manufacturer can keep cranking out silicon without fear of legal reprisal. Given HTC's competitors recently went on a giant patent shopping spree, we'd surmise that strengthening its warchest is, dare we say, quietly brilliant.

“The transaction would allow VIA to monetize a portion of its rich IP portfolio, yet retain its graphics capabilities to support the development and sale of its processors and chipsets,â€
Shows that it was mainly to acquire the patents, because now the company that sold it has an unlimited license, removing the possibility of buying it out then using the licensing fees as a permanent cash flow.

Yeah alright, most people here are biased, no duh. It's OCN. And if you go into a Apple forum the coins flipped the other direction, that's just reality.

More on topic:
Patent feuds like this make companies look like a bunch of little children fighting over a toy. But I guess greed is pretty much the base factor in most of these.

If apple keep acting like they own every god dam thing in this world i will never buy a product from you again .. thats a promise .

My iphone 3g is going in the bin soon , along with my good thoughts about apple .

Id rather buy a phone that i wont have to replace the screen 4 times on thanks , oh and one that has a working loudspeaker thanks .

Just for the record , i used to hate imac computers back at school .. If it wasnt for the iphone apple would be bankrupt . Their products are garbage .

end of story .
What a childish post.

Apple couldn't care less if you think HTC makes good phones. They're infringing on patents, and they will sue.

Walking over everyone else? You obviously don't understand anything about intellectual property and the patent system. Apple has patents. HTC infringes the patents. Apple sues. Is that unfair? And HTC bought a company days after they were found guilty of patent infringement JUST so they could sue back. That's trolling.

They don't act like they own everything. They own some intellectual property. And it's their right to protect it.

Be more careful with a phone made out of glass next time. It's not Apple's fault that glass breaks. Any phone with a glass screen would break just as easily.

And their products are garbage? End of story? You don't even explain WHY you think their products are garbage, so good luck convincing people.

Legit patents? You mean patents that they bought right after they lost to Apple just so they could sue back? Somehow that's better than actually, you know, inventing something and submitting a patent for it, then defending your intellectual property?

Bias is rampant on Apple-related threads here.

If you knew and understand what I was responding to you would understand why I posted what I did, but no, you felt the need to childishly insult me and "refuted" my post by giving examples of Apple buying patents.
