Good entry level sub?

Thread Starter

I need some advice on a good sub for under 250. Its going to be paired with my Polk Monitor 60s and a Denon AVR-1611. I was originally looking at the Polk PSW10 but that has no LFE. I came across the

which I really like, but people are saying it can sound muddy. This sub is mainly going to be used for music. I briefly looked at a Dayton SUB-120, but that woofer construction looks cheap.

What are some good brands to look for in this price range?

I have no experience with these, but in addition to the F12 these are the most commonly recommended super cheap subs:

Acoustech H-100:

PL-200: http://www.acousticsounddesign.com/c...t.cfm?PID=1555 (call and offer $279. say you were referred by avsforum. slightly over your budget though).
Lava LSP-10: http://www.lavasubs.com/10_inch/powe...subwoofer.html You can also get an avsforum discount - I think it's 15% but I could be wrong.

And there's nothing wrong with the dayton. Of course it's cheap. Still better than anything you could get at best buy for the money. What do you expect when looking at subs in this price range?

Here's another one worth looking at - Outlaw Audio M8. http://outlawaudio.com/products/m8.html $249, dunno how much shipping would cost.

I would recommend the Lava sub if you can foot the bill. For what get its a pretty good sub. I would also suggest Epik, Elemental Designs, and maybe Emotiva as well. Check out Audiogon for good deals.

This one is good and isn't cheap looking like the Dayton if that's what bothers you.

That's the F12 isn't it? That's also what the OP was talking about. I own the F12, and I can say that it sounds a little muddy. I still enjoy the music greatly, just wish it was a tad clearer. Still, a great buy though

check out this website. You can get a used sub, most of which are kept in mint-condition for pretty cheap. here's an example.
