I repeat, the alpha is for TESTING BUGS and PERFORMANCE of the SERVERS. It's right there on their website in black and white. It doesn't say in the survey "how do you feel about the spotting feature?" it says "ho much cover in in the maps? Did you notice the heal marker above peoples heads"

The whinging people are all intent on cancelling their preorders and don't try to bloody lecture me about Battlefield games. I said in the warfare pack thread and I'll have to say it again, I'm a long time BF player. My Vet status is only 2 because I couldn't get the older games to load form Gamespy. Noit that that matters because my objection on the warfare pack was simply because I totally disagree with preorder incentives like that. Free map pack everyone can buy, yes, free pack no-one can buy, no. EA back pedalled on that one. I hope to dear god they don't on this one.

Also, no, the video breaches the NDA and I hope the uploader/crteator is slammed hard for it.

I've been playing the alpha for a few days now and I'm LOVING it. I've been reporting bugs and errors like crazy and generally helping out. Maybe that's because I've been able to divert most of my attention towards finding bugs and enjoying the game instead of crying hard about the "feature".
We'll if you read the email for the alpha is says specifically

Quote:
The purpose of the Battlefield 3 Alpha Trial is to do a number of server-related tests in preparation for game launch, including load testing our back-end. We are also looking to you to provide us with any feedback on the entire Alpha Trial experience
I'm pretty sure you're only doing half of your job sir!
Edit: It may only be alpha but if i don't give them feedback on what i don't like then it won't be changed. Therefore i expressed my concerns that 3d spotting combined with the high damage and prone was too much. I know its alpha, but that doesn't change the fact that i'm not there just to report bugs, which i have reported (around 8+), but to also report our likes and dislikes about the game.

Noone is "just" complaining about it now.

They're just annoyed that the same problem highlighted in the video has not yet been addressed and has been implemented into a completely new game.

I dont believe that you should be able to camp in a bush you cant even see out of, fire at orange triangles and get kills/suppression points/etc.

If you think about it, I dont think you'd agree with that either if you're 100% honest with yourself.

All these guys are doing, is bringing it to the attention of DICE and campaigning for a better implementation or removal of the ability to exploit the system in that manner.
I do not agree with the camping at all. As I said in my first post blame the player for playing cheaply.

In real life running to afghanistan with a squad. One squad members sees the enemy they all will know the opponents position.

Spot killing is a gamble. Normally people who get killed like that are camping, and has been in one spot for 2 hours.

grenade spamming, I seriously never experienced it. Or I totally overlooked it.

Are you talking about GL?

Yeah, no one ever complains about it. ....

You don't come around these forums often, eh? And you -certainly- don't visit the EA-UK BFBC2 and BF3 forums often. Spotting is easily the most hated "feature" of BFBC2.

In BFBC2 you could only hide behind solid objects you couldn't shoot through (minus the occasional fallen tree that eventually disappears). So you had to at least make yourself visible to the enemy in order to kill them.
The problem with spotting is.. You just described the problem with spotting and then say it isn't a problem? Being able to shoot orange triangles isn't a problem? Being able to shoot at triangles 500+ meters away, through trees, dust, debris, and getting headshots on unseen targets isn't a problem?

BECAUSE. We've been complaining about it for 18 months now. Where have you been?

Camping: It's a war game. Expect "camping" - it will happen, and often. That's how wars are prosecuted. One side digs in, and one side tries to break his defense.

Spot killing is not a gamble. It's a freebie. It's a given. That's why it's a NOOB feature.

And I'm sure - in Afghanistan - when people are spotted, your squadmates get little orange triangles to help with their accuracy, amirite? Knowing your opponent is "along that valley floor, near some boulders" is vastly different from "the enemy is RIGHT THERE, with a big neon sign on his head!"

----

I would honestly stop playing HC if there was no more spotting. I'd give up the much more realistic damage model just to have more servers to play on. Spotting annoys me that much. The problem is DICE won't listen to any alternatives to 3d "wallhack" spotting. Not line of sight only, not squad mates only, not 2d spotting, not "in this general area" spotting. Nothing. Just this. If I wanted to cheat I'd go over to the AA forums and sign up.

I wouldn't equate 3D spotting to cheating, as everyone on both sides should be smart enough to be in the habit of spotting enemy players and not worrying about keeping a kill for themselves, etc. There is no single side that benefits from spotting in a given match (at least in my opinion, and i've been a BF player since BF 1942).

That said, 3D spotting does make the game more "spammy" and discourages actual tracking and situational awareness by making everyone reliant on seeing a glowing orange triangle to figure out where enemies are positioned.

It should be a natural battlefield/squad instinct to scope out and physically find where enemies are rather than just mindlessly spamming the "Q" button in hopes of spotting someone.

I wouldn't mind if DICE uses the 2142-style spotting which puts the spotted enemy position on your mini map (2D spotting) for a VERY brief couple of seconds - that way, there's at least some coordination involved with direction, sight and being situationally aware + using your mini map as opposed to instantly aiming at an EXACT spot because of an orange triangle.

I have access to the Alpha and from what I've played, it's a lot like BF2, with some slight adjustments to achieve a contemporary FPS style of play. All in all its a good time, even for an Alpha. The tank play isn't very good, but that's probably because its just a couple of light tanks, unlike the heavy tanks that will probably be in other maps. Gun play is a lot like BC2, intense but not over in a split second. There's a lot of room to enhance different aspects of play to benefit with a higher score. Squad play is just like BC2, but I don't think the alpha map can really bring out the golden moments BC2's maps did (will probably change with the beta then the full release).

Simply put, its an attempt to take the good from BF2 and the good from BC2 and combine them into one game. In my opinion I think they nailed it.

You can only get 'commando lunged' from behind. If someone knifes you from behind that's fair game. However if someone tries to knife you from the front they wont kill you instantly unless you're already at like 10% hp.

WIth 3d spotting and no commander, lame small squads and no true medic class its looking like just a bad company 3 and not bf3 but who knows we will see more at beta, but the way its looking now there is no way its going to dethrone COD.
