I use a CM 212+ . Those are high. I'd try reapplying your cooler. How high is your voltage? 4.3 with stock cooler, and no fans might be too high. the 212+ is like $25 and well worth it.

Thanks for all the info guys!

I'm somewhat new to overclocking.

I have a dumb question but I do need clarification: vcore is what we watch, no? VID is just a suggested voltage from Intel? My VID hovers around 1.4 max load, but my vcore is always much lower.

Ok just read this: http://www.overclock.net/t/1238019/what-is-cpu-vid#post_16876166 and from what I understand, vcore is the "final" voltage delivered, where VID is the initial suggested voltage, and DVID modifies the voltage on the load line. Does this make sense?

My DVID is something like -0.100.

What was your settings for your 4.5ghz?
My last try was:
Turbo MultiX45, bclk@1002, all other voltages @auto, Dvid +0.01, c1 auto, eist on, c3/c6 disabled, thermal monitor disabled, ram@1600@1,5v (corsair vengeance 2X4 gb), TPL=CCL=300 Watts. - Oh yeah HT on.
I ran succesfully 20 rans LynxAvx w/ all the memory (isn't that savage!), then i ran prime 95 v26.6 blend aaaaaaand i got a worker stopped at 2,5 hrs.mad.gif
So more Dvid or what?
Also this Performance Enhance setting does it make any difference?
By the way that was my 2nd 2600 k rolleyes.gif cause the previous one i didn't manage to get stable @4,5 even with +0.03 dvid...

Okay I checked my stable 4.5 settings again. I haven't changed these for a long time and never had any problems

BIOS F2
C1E DISABLED
C3/C6 DISABLED
THERMAL MONITOR DISABLED

BLCK ENABLED 100.2MHZ (gives 100 in windows)
XMP Disabled (I set the timings manually and voltage to 1.64 as that is what my ram is supposed to run at)
My DRAM Timing is set to Quick not Expert

DVID +.040V
QPI/VTT 1.200V
DRAM Voltage 1.64 (as this is what my ram is supposed to run at)

During IBT my voltage was 1.356 and during prime95 1.344-> my temps maxed at 72 (fourth core only)

I was booting windows as per my earlier guide at 4.8 but it didn't pass intel burn test. 4.5 is very fast and has been very stable.

I'm gonna try 4.8 one more time tonight and then tomorrow I'm picking up an Asus -P8Z68 V GEN3 with i7-2600k. Before I put in the 2600k I'll see if I can get stabler overclocks with that board and my current i5-2500k for a comparison.

Well i gave it a try again today. Same settings with dvid +0.02. Same results -a worker stopped at 2+hrs prime. Again doh.gif
I will disable c1e also, maybe raise dvid a notch.
Did you find raising the qpi/vtt helpful?
Default is 1.05 and intel suggests that it should be raised no more than 2or3% to be safe. I think that gives a roof at 1.10v. Isn't 1.20 too much for 24/7?
@RAR76 the only correct way for measuring Vcore is via easytune6 or in bios.

Hey guys, this might be my last post in this thread. I threw in my new Asus P8Z68 V GEN3 with the same cpu (i5-2500k), cooler (212+) and every thing else the same. Got 4.8 easily and passed IBT and prime95 (+3 hrs). So it goes to show that the board does limit your OC. For how cheap the board is z68-d2h-b3 it is still pretty good getting a 4.5 OC...

I Got Rock Stable @4.5
Passed 7+ hrs. Prime95 (v26.6) blend , and 20 rans LynxAvx w/ all the memory.
My settings was: (2600k)
Turbo MultiX45, bclk@1002
Dvid +0.02, qpi/vtt: 1.10V
all other voltages @auto
TPL=CCL=300 Watts
c1 auto, eist on, c3/c6 disabled, thermal monitor disabled
HT on.
During prime my Vcore was 1.32V (easytune6), and my temps never exceeded 63 degrees.
and at bios it states 1,356V

hey guys. newbie here. was wondering if you could help me out.

I just built a rig with this exact MB and an i5-2500k. This is my first build in about 10 years+ (so i forgot almost everything i knew about OCing). Did some reading up on the web, including the forums but it's the stupid BIOS that has me off.

I have F8 bios, and i don't have the straight vcore options (just + and - whatever the base number is) nor do i have the calibration option. I'm gonna try my luck with F2 bios but how do i change to that version? i downloaded but not sure how that works.

Also...which is better, just changing the multipliers or changing the clock ratio? Isn't changing the clock ratio with "change ratio in OS" enabled the same thing as changing the multipliers since they're basically only running at full gear when they need to?

i'd like to get to 45x/4500. Everytime i try i get like 3800 or 4100 max. something is capping me

The lack of bios options actually is making it more difficult for a newb like myself. can anyone who's running F8 and had success post their settings?

desertlocate's walkthrough seems to be confuse me a little because of some things he said later in the thread about using different options, and since he said he was having problems with F8 and was using F2 i'm thinking it wouldn't even apply.

So I guess if I just want to make a mild Turbo OC of 400mhz I would just let everything be at AUTO, put F8 bios in, put Turbo CPU multiplier to 34(from 30).
