How much should i charge someone to fix their computer?

heres the story..... i know how to fix computers.

im in a band and we had a gig last night with another band who we are friends with....

a member of the other band mentioned that his computer was all messed up and he needed it fixed. a member of my band suggested to him that i take a look at it for him. so today i get it, thinking the hard drive is dieing (based on what he told me ) so i backed up the whole thing (whopping 80gb lol) and then i looked up the corrupted file that wasnt letting the computer start. popped in the win xp cd, typed a few cmd lines and it was fixed.

i have about 2-2.5 hrs into this...(taking hd out of computer and putting it into mine, backing it up, cleaning the huge amount of dust balls, putting it back together and then fixing the problem)

what should i charge for this?

and just for future reference what are fair prices that i can charge people for my services?

thank you

That's the funny thing about computer. I repair PC for my friends and expect nothing from them. However, whenever I have car problems my automotive tech friends always charges me labor.

I think you should charge the guy $20-$30

Remember once you start fixing for free its a never ending cycle of "HEY Could You come over for a few minutes so that you can fix my computer and then kick you out because i only need you for your technical skills."
I know.. This happened to me. DONT LET IT HAPPEN TO YOU!!

I would charge him about $60 bucks.

I do IT for a living and simple fix plus backing up and blowing it out.
