Buzzing sound

Thread Starter
To be completely honest I'm not 100% sure this is a graphics card related problem but I'm out of ideas.

Here's the problem. Whenever i move the mouse i get a humming sound in the speakers. If the moue isn't moving it stops. Yet in the black ops main menu the buzzing is constant. When mousing over flash related buttons in Firefox the sound gets more intense and crackles, also when scrolling down or up pages.

The best i can describe the sound is that it's like a grinder spinning but really quiet. Sound increases when the volume does.

Have had my mobo replaced when i got the b3 and still has same problem so it cant be that.
Tried different audio drivers.
Tried different mice however changing dpi from 1600 to 3500 on my razer abyssus increases the buzz. My microsoft mouse with a lower dpi is quieter still.

My next guess would be my Sapphire HD6970 interfering due to the sound changing with display movement.

Unfortunately i am unable to test with another card at the moment.

Any ideas before i get round to this?

Well, you can try removing the card and seeing if it does it with onboard video. If it still does it, I'm leaning towards a grounding issue/PSU whine.

Do you get the same interference when using a headset/headphones? Too me it sounds more likely that its the monitor interfering with the speakers rather than the graphics card.

Yes i still get interference through my headset. I tried unpluging my dvi cable on my monitor and turning it off but the sound was still there when i moved my mouse.

My mobo doesnt have any onboard graphics so i cant try it without a card.

Another point I forgot to mension is that whenever my HDD or SSD is being read its almost like you can hear the data being read. Same when loading a web page, its like i can hear my wireless card receiving data.

As for grounding my PSU, my case came with rubber feet for it to sit on. Should i be using these. Is there a golden rule when seating your PSU for good grounding?

I understand that the PSU is grounded by the power cable and also by the metal screws attaching it to the case.
Is it still possible it is not grounded properly?
Thanks for the replys

aside from you said that the buzzing scales with the volume knob....

I have a PSU that is partly broken, was powering a PC with a 2005 GPU, and I would get a buzzing/ticking type sound(like a busy HDD) when moving web pages up and down, or moving a window around the screen

I can't remember if it did it in games, very weak so I hardly used that old GPU, but it was the PSU for sure, even though the card only used power from the MB slot

fire up afterburner osd to show your core and memory speeds.

in black ops menu, my card core goes from 250 to 500 to 800 back and forth. figure out when your system buzzes at what core speeds.

The coils whine when the pulled amperage increase. I remember when I used to run furmark, the electricity noise coming from the psu would scare me. It is normal.

Thanks everyone for your input

This sounds like my problem. If this is the case then would that make me eligable for a replacement? It is still under warranty.

EDIT: Stupid question ^ I'll ring and ask

If the problem only occurred during furmark i wouldn't be worried, but this is constant and quite an annoying sound.

Thanks
