there there an inexpensive active dvi adapter out there?

The only ones that support 1920x1080 without hicups are the USB powered ones.

I use the xfx active display port to dvi been using it for a couple of weeks now.

The saphire here looks to be good also just didn't like the warranty.

Well you can always choose one of the cheaper ones in the link speculat gave you. just play with 720 being the vertical resolution.

that Sapphire looks like the same unit I have used for over a year for my eyefinity setup, has served me well. I get an occasional "Display adaptor has stopped working" or some such msg, and sometimes get mouse curser corruption but I tend to think that's more of an ATI eyefinity/crossfire glitch.
Overall I am pleased for my under-$30 investment!
edit: running 5960 x 1080 after bezel compensation

Yep, like I said. They have hicups with resolutions of 1920x1080 and above.
