[Kotaku] Nintendo 3DS Gets Sudden, Massive Price Drop - Page 4

Another Zelda regurge from the N64 days and Pokemon regurge with more moronically named Pokemon [should have stopped at 151, not this absurd ~500], Mario jumping like always and Luigi blindly following... they've brought nothing new to the table other than the technology behind it. While that's nice, if no game is really great and takes advantage of it... it's a pointless system imo.

Nostalgia can only take you so far, and I think Nintendo is starting to realize that wall. Face first at that.
so your saying that the nostalgia is the only reason the system is selling? really? wouldnt that be true of EVERY OTHER popular game series then? COD? Halo? Battlefield?

Not flaming you or anything but honestly i have enjoy nintedo games since the first NES. I bought the 3DS (actually my roomate owed me rent so he bought it for me) but regardless i am very happy about it. The system is something revolutionary and the upcoming games look fantastic. The current selection of games besides Zelda is garbage ill admit that and i wont defend Nintendo not bringing out something like Mario with the system launch, but really most systems are kept alive by nostalgia......give it time, the system will show its colors once the good games are out.

Please dont flame me, as i didnt flamer you just throwing my 2 cents up there. i do agree with you that a company cant completely depend on nostalgia but it is a big part. As for the price drop...its def worth 170 dollars

You only get the free games if you buy a 3DS BEFORE the price drop.

My advice: Buy the 3DS @ Best Buy, or any place that price matches within the return policy, before the price drop, connect to the internet, get your free games after the price drop, and get the difference in the cost back after the price drop.

PROFIT!

There is no reason why not, I work at Best Buy and that's pretty much how it works. Usually with things like this, if they want to maintain that people bought it before a certain period, such as with the past where people got Windows 7 for free as an upgrade if they bought a Vista machine after a certain date, they required you to fax or mail them a copy of your receipt.

With this set-up, all they are doing is requiring you to connect to the internet with your device.

As far as Best Buy's policy has been in my store, any sale price or price drop within the return policy can be price-matched, with the exception of online competitors. Since Best Buy and every other competitor in the area is doing the price drop, they will most likely price-match it unless there is a specific clause against it.

No reason why it wont work!

The only really good game is (OoT) and the next good game is too (star fox). After that though, we have mario kart, super mario land, and kid icarus (this year).

For one, 3DS sales are not when they projected, due to a combination of a lack of premiere titles, a way too high price tag, and (this is my experience, but I assume I am not alone) the 3D just not being all that "amazing" once you actually start playing with it. And two, Wii sales have dropped off the map...everyone who wants one has one, they just aren't moving anymore. So they had to do something to get units of 3DS moving and generate some positive cash flow.

And Vita is clearly superior hardware, Nintendo had to do something to establish a customer base before that thing comes out and the fence sitters are left with an obvious, non-Nintendo choice.

Personally, I think I'm skipping both handhelds. I believe the future of portable gaming lies with phones, not dedicated gaming units. The only people I see porting around a DS or a PSP are kids. But everyone has a phone. Yes, iPhones and such don't have controls as good as a real gaming unit...but that's what my "real" consoles are for, I believe "good enough" is all that matters in portable gaming. (That Playstation phone thingamajig may be a best-of-both-worlds compromise, I'm curious to see how well it actually works.)
Ya for an adult it just doesn't look right sitting in public playing pokemon. But when your playing it on a phone people think your important communicating with some business contact.

Playing a DS or PSP also isn't all that attractive to the girls either.

I find myself playing them at home if I play them at all. If I'm going to do that I might as well just stick to real consoles.

Yea, why buy a 170$ 3DS, and games that cost 40$ when you already have a phone that can download games for 1-2$ a piece? The only reason i ever buy handhelds is to play that one exclusive game, or to keep me busy on a road trip which my phone does just fine now.
