Locked Multiplier - Can anything be done?

Thread Starter
Due to locked multiplier (and me being relatively new at this overclocking thing), it is a bit difficult for me to see how i can get my CPU oc'd without underclocking memory, so i left the CPU at a stable 2.4GHz and memory at stock (400MHz clock, 5-5-5-15-20-1T) for now.

I'm not too certain on this, but Reference Clock (FSB) doesn't seem to go higher than 255, therefore, i kept it at 240 with a 667 (1:1.66) memory setting (240 * 1.66 = 400MHz). going above 240 messes up the divider thus underclocking my memory and like i said, i dont think i can get the Reference Clock that much higher anyway. Maybe it needs the voltage raised - I don't know.

With the CPU being the bottleneck I think I shouldn't be afraid to sacrifice some memory clock if that's what it takes, so I guess my main question is,

"How do I raise performance of a Locked Multiplier CPU without underclocking memory too much"

I know it's old, but hey, I recently upgraded pretty much all of my rig and i'm a bit dry now

I'm here because I'm not yet comfortable with this and I'm not sure where to start.
Thank you in advance.

You should be able to go down in multi but not up.
A lower multi will allow you to push the bus farther with a lower CPU clock (therefore you can place your RAM on a lower divider and compensate, depending on how far the board will go).

but you see, that's the thing - i think 255 is as far as the board can go. i lowered both the ram and cpu clocks to try and get a high reference clock (cant i just call it the FSB?), that is all i got. unless increasing some voltages has a direct effect on how far the reference clock goes, i think im stuck with it.

Also lower the HT multiplier/clock when you tested?

i had it set on auto i think (4x), currently it's on 5x (1200MHz). but yeah, maybe i should go test again and keep an eye out for it.

Also - wouldnt the Reference Clock have to go up to 300 to achieve a Memory Clock of 400MHz with the next lowest memory setting (1:1.33)? there's no way it can go that high.... welp, here goes nothing

okay, tested for max Reference Clock, 270-274 booted windows nicely, 275 or 280 didnt.

now, would raising any voltages or other tinkering help me go at all higher? if not, i simply have no choice but to stick with x10 multiplier, as x9 simply isn't sufficient with a reference clock this low.

i did originally plan to put this in a memory thread, seeing as it's more about memory clocks and dividers, but i guess the damage is done, huh :/

yeah like the mod said, you can lower the multiplier, but you cant go above the max multiplier per example 14

ps: when i buyed the 1055t, i ask the samething like you :O
