GPU Performance Question

Thread Starter
I just bought a new video card. I was not able to play Crysis 2 or Witcher 2 with my old HD 4870 smoothly on low/medium settings, which is the main reason I decided to upgrade. I figured with a $300+ card, those games would be able to run max setting smooth as silk. Both look very good but still do not perform like I thought they would.

My question is this, can my CPU and memory be a bottleneck for my graphical performance right now? Do they need to be upgraded or is that card just not strong enough to run those games max settings.

Any help/guidance would be appreciated

Yes, your CPU being a dual core is a hindrance to your new video card [in games that use more than 2 cores such as the two games you have listed, and most games that will be coming out]- if you look you most likely aren't seeing 99% (or close) utilization of your GPU (use something such as MSI Afterburner to check GPU utilization) - I would recommend at least getting a Q6600 if you want a cheap upgrade and overclocking it a bit and you should see a noticeable increase
