Anyway, Nehalem/2500K/Phenom II X6 all perform similarly under highly-threaded tasks. And don't even bother link me to any game benchmarks, because that's a poor way to measure total CPU performance. It's like saying a 2500k is a better CPU than a 990x because it gets higher FPS in games.

This thread suggests otherwise.

Well, if it "easily matches" a 2500k in these oh-so-important benchmarks that you linked to, why not recommend it over the 2500k? The point is I can count on one hand the number of apps where a Thuban is anywhere near a 2500k. The reason everybody acknowledges the 2500k is a far superior CPU is because, well, its a far superior CPU (and that's without even mentioning gaming)....

That being said, I'm still hoping that BD will challenge SB in IPC so we can have an actual contest between the two companies again....

This must be the least expensive FX line-up ever.

True dat!

I am impressed at AMDs pricing approach. I am almost done building my Sandy Bridge rig (sig) and hopefully I don't regret it. I sold my "1090T BE / 6950" system to build this new one.

Only time will tell

from what I have seen and read AMD went back to the 5000+ series cpu and retweaked.
designed a fabulous looking front end, will definately help with the tic toc as the phenoms had a lousy slow memory controller
AMD also is not fighting INTEL for SMT but rather CMT.
in other words the bulldozer is a fully out of order cpu.
really there will be no actualy comparing intel vs AMD
the architectures are designed for different purposes. AMD is going for cloud servers.

as for games I don't see the point of running a game to see cpu power it's pointless as your graphics card is doing that work.
though a good balance between the 2 shows up in frame rates.

as for me having turned into an AMD fan yes, intel still has a good product but hate buying boards every couple years.
hopefully AMD won't fall in that pattern though they are changing sockets after am3+ to fm2 which could be lga or bga as AMD needs the out puts now to compete fully with Intel.
as far as some Intel fan boys are concerned you better hope BD doesn't fail as the push forward come from the competition AMD gives INTEL.
and then nobody get what they want better stuff and prices.

Um, because it is? For just about everyone the i5-2500k kills the 990x.

From gaming to price vs performance the i5-2500k laughs at the 990x.

My i5-2500k ($225) vs my 1090T ($230)

I did a little review between the two chips from my own personal perspective, and even with my 1090T running 4.4 to 4.5GHz it failed on every level vs my i5-2500k which was cheaper at the time.

I don't really care if the eight core cpu beats my i5-2500k in Cinebench, I can't see how it would matter to anyone here except the AMD users who are used to using Cinebench as a crutch for the Phenom II x6 cpus.

Also BFBC2 uses 4 threads/cores at most, I dunno why so many x6 users think it uses all 6 cores - activity doesn't mean utilization.

The idea that enthusiasts that only game far outnumber those who use their CPUs for other tasks is laughable.

Instead of trying to color a group of users (in this case enthusiasts) in whatever light you seem fit, just buy the CPU that fits your needs and don't feel the need to justify your purchase or tear down somebody else's on the forums. Especially when you have no idea how that person is using their product. If Gameboy or whoever has the need for all the threads on a 990x then to him it is a better CPU than the 2500K.

Like the atom thread?

I've found people can justify just about anything, even genocide. So justifying a slow and bloated cpu is entirely within the realm of possibility.
