But will be interesting to see how it stacks up elsewhere if the price is going to be similar. AMD is putting the pressure on themselves, hopefully they step up.
Actually gaming is one of the areas Intel currently excels the most, due to a huge IPC advantage and the fact that most games do not utilize more 2-4 cores.

How do you figure? Intel has ruled gaming since 2006 when the C2D was released.

8 weak cores = budget server.
You do realize that Bulldozer will be more powerful than their (AMD) previous architecture, right? They aren't doing a Phenom III.

Pretty much this. You can select between the different details of the game. While I haven't noticed a visual difference (it's amazing), I have noticed my frames go up.

Totally agreed. It's in DX10.. And even with DX10 it's a very sweet looking game and will only get better with DX11

Battlefield Bad Company 2...

What game company over the next few years, is going to survive competition, if their game aren't 64bit client & multi-threaded/efficient. (Windows 8)

Coincidentally, does anyone remember the backlash that Black Ops got, when it wasn't optimized for quad-core..? Gamers today expect Developers to make use off all the technology in their games (tess, physics, lighting, positional sound & next year will be more demanding from the end-user.

Games are no longer limited by 2GB of memory and 2 cores. That was 2006... need to wake up bro..!

Which isn't needed. My rig is getting 60+ fps in the alpha at 1920X1080 on high with a single 480.
People are upgrading their rigs to the kind of rig that you and I have. 2500K or higher, good graphics card.

BF3 stresses my cpu usage out to 60%+. BC2 only uses about 40-50% usage. Any good quad core will run this game easily. I have no hiccups, no studders, no issues whatsoever.

Ahh someone who speaks the truth. This was refreshing. Here i was thinking I was just going to find a few pages of nonsense.

These chips are probably gonna make some cool dedicated folding rigs and will be sick for any applications that can use >4 cores... With average single core performance though, I think im sticking with intel for gaming for the time being.

I've been waiting for AMD to do something since my opty 165 and my 4400+ dual core rigs
