IEM's or Headphones For Dad

Thread Starter
I was thinking of a present to get my Dad, and I know that he is quite into his music, but he is always using the crappy standard iPhone rubbish. I have asked him what he is looking for and combined it with what I believe to be good...
  • Noise Canceling
  • Portable
  • Would be great if it had the iPhone microphone built-in, but not needed
  • Entry Level Audiophile (about $75-$90)
Here are some of the bands that he likes, I think it is mainly rock and roll...
  • the beatles
  • the eagles
  • pink floyd
  • the rolling stones

For rock, you might want to consider these

Exceptional for rock (to most people, at least), and very easy to drive from any portable device.

Slightly over budget but i would just get him a pair of m50's.
Grado's are great for his style of music, but they are open air cans (not noise isolating at all by design). Not only will he hear everyone, but everyone will hear his music. Also the grados are uncomfortable for any extended period of time.

m50's usually sell around $100 but due to high demand they have actually appreciated.. you might be able to find them for $100-110 if you look around.

I can recommend these. They are on-ear headphones with pretty good noise isolation. The volume buttons work with ipods and iphones, and there is also a mic on volume control. I bought them for my ipod and I love them.

Those are worth considering if you decide IEM's. I got my grandfather some and he loves them. They are VERY comfortable and I've used them for a bit and can't complain (I listen to mostly rock as well and definitely to those bands mentioned).
