DDR3 and DDR2 RAM together?

Thread Starter
I have checked, but couldn't find any threads (also the rest of the internet is god awful in this area). My motherboard supports DDR2 and DDR3 RAM, and specifically mentions in the manual about a maximum of 8Gb (which for me is not a problem).

Right, my question is can I install an extra 4Gb of DDR2 on top of my 4Gb of DDR3 in THIS motherboard. Also if I can, I assume it would underclock my DDR3 to whatever the DDR2 is, but would it be bad for performance?

64-bit is not an issue as I will be upgrading to that soon.

As far as I know no, it is not possible.

Err no you can't mix and match ram on any board.

Save the $35 for another 4Gb of DDR3

I doubt you can use both DDR2 and DDR3 together... what model is that board you're referring to? I checked your Asrock N68S-UCC and I'm sure that isn't the one...

No you can't.
but I seem to find ddr3 a lot cheaper used than I can find ddr2.
but I guess if you had the extra ddr2 around, I could see why you'd want to try.

Nope you can only do 1 type. DDR3 has become very cheap just buy your self more of it if you Insist that you need massives amount of ram

Well its good to know for sure, there have been a lot of mixed signals all over the place about it.

Right, now I do understand it, the way it sounded in the manual was that each bay can have 2Gb, and you get a max of 8Gb, which implies you can use both, but that first bit was a misprint, so each bay can have 4Gb. I get it, shame then, but at least I can still get 8Gb overall.
