Some questions about cpus..

Hi I'm kind of a noob at computers so i have a few questions!

I read an article on hyperthreading and understood nothing. What exactly is it and how is it useful?

How come some of the new cpus like i5 2500k outperform those 6 core cpus?

What are 6 core processors used for? is it for professionals who use cpu heavy applications or... ?

Hyper-threading simulates two cores for every physical core. As with actual 6-core CPUs, the benefit comes when using programs optimized for multi-core processors. For most ordinary usage, including gaming, there won't be a huge improvement.

As to why some quad-cores beat hexa-cores... there's a lot more to a CPU than the core count. For people like you or I, it's probably sufficient to say that the architecture is better.
