Adding ram, compatible?

Hello guys!

I currently have 4gb of Gskills Ripjaws RAM...
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...M-_-13-138-193

I have 4 slots on my motherboard and wanna add 8gb, will a setup consisting of 4gb 4gb 2gb 2gb sticks still work?

Should I buy the same type of ram i currently have but in 8gb stick?
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...M-_-13-138-193

Or can I mix 4gb ripjaws with 8gb kingston hyperx?
http://ncix.com/products/?sku=58472&...cture=Kingston

Thanks all!

I wouldn't mix the brands. If you got two 4gb strips of the exact same RAM it should work fine. Make sure that you put the matching RAM in the matching slots. Red with red, green with green, etc... (Whatever color your mobo has)

I'd just buy two more 2GB sticks. I doubt you'll need more than 8GB. 2GB sticks should be faster anyway, even though they have less capacity.

Edit: The 2GB sticks being duplicates of the kind you have now.

You should get the G.Skill ram, since you already have G.Skill ram in your computer. You can add ram, but make sure the new ram you buy goes in the same matching memory color slot.

I agree on not mixing brands. I wouldn't even mix different models of the same brand. Its a bit iffy with different timings and speeds. I would just get new ram or 2 more sticks of the same ram.
