As with any industry, they go with wherever they can make the most profit and it definitely ain't you.

The biggest demographic in the games industry is the casual gamer, like it or not.

The 'hardcore gamer' snobbiness exhibited here is LOL. But hey, having my basically future brother-in-law in the games industry has nothing to do with it....

Casual social gaming = WHERE THE $$$$ IS.

Remember, gaming is more than just FPS's and big blockbuster titles with large online multiplayer elements people.

Facebook based games, Flash based games, iPhone / Android based games is where the money is, particularly for small independant companies with small amount of capital.

If you are into graphic design and going to be / are a recent grad, I'd highly recommend you apply for jobs at independent gaming companies that specialise in these 'dollar apps', even if they aren't advertising any jobs.
You have to understand that 99% of people here have absolutely no business mindset. Heck they probably still live with their parents.

Tablet and phone games don't cost $60.

When people finally figure out that PC gaming is where it's at (and where everything'll end up) I think the world will be a better place.

I guess the CEO is basically saying why spend millions on production value, graphics. and great gameplay when you can spend thousands on some b/s game and link it to Facebook and make just as much money.
I think this trend of making easy money on the casual gamer will lose steam as this space gets inundated. The barriers to entry in this space are very low and the margins on these games will get squeezed with everyone piling in trying to make a quick buck.

His point is that not everybody has $50-$60 to dump on a 4-6 hour fail you call a "real game".

Also you totally missed the point of potential gains in portable games. Small dev team or even solo at home developer, minimal funding, sell game in high volume for $1. Ask yourself how retail chain stores make a profit at the end of the day bud

And FYI, there are actually a huge number of really good, solid games on the iDevices. I play a lot of Defense/TD's, Strats and Puzzle games on my ipod. Those devices are home to some of the best games in those genres at this time :/
