That way nobody can ever actually challenge the veracity of the alarmists's claims because anybody that doesn't believe in man-made Climate Change is obviously not a "real" scientist.

Its kind of like how they always claim that any extreme in weather condition is caused by global warming:

Is it really hot? Global warming.
Is it really cold? Global warming.
Is it raining a lot? Global warming.
Is it not raining a lot? Global warming.
You know, I'm not going to say that I believe in GW. However, I'm wall aware that we have no idea what the increase of CO2 will do to us. I don't believe that our current weather patterns are a product of just CO2 emissions, though I am going to say it isn't helping our planet. it would be nice to at least see support on the fight to keep CO2 down, have cleaner fuels, and maybe even recycle. But no, we get people like you who bring politics into this crap. Then you make fun of those who actually try and keep a scientific mind, as if you can't try and be Alpha enough. After that you keep drilling the same topics over and over, to show that there are flaws which we have already acknowledged. So my real question is this: What do you do on a daily basis, what is your career? Mainly, why do you generate so much hate towards a subject? Do you run research against this subject? I'm just curious, you must with all that hate built up.

And this is exactly what I was talking about: Someone with no understanding of the subject making blanket statements that are really meaningless. You don't have to believe in climate change being caused by humans, but you also can't act like you know anything about what's going on given the statement you just made, because clearly you don't even have a rudimentary understanding.

Lol at first I was bit startled by the tone of the writing - is this really Yahoo speaking?
Nope. Clicked through and I'm greeted with the Forbes logo. I'd suggest that people who post in this thread read the article themselves and draw their own conclusions instead of relying on a rag's interpretation of it.

*Here's a fun game. Count how many times "alarmist" is used in the Forbes article.

I still "told you so" that it's happening, just the debate is how fast. So many people were ignorant to the fact that it was happening at all haha.

I'm a Radiologic Technologist at my local Hospital. I work in the ER and help hundreds of patients each and every day. The reason I hate environmentalism is because they are trying to hold our nation back from economic and technological prosperity while at the same time trying to micro-manage all of our lives.

I happen to love driving my sports car and you guys wanna take it away from me based on dubious science and guesswork. I enjoy running my A/C at 70F but you guys wanna make me sweat all day for the polar bears. I have a computer that draws 800W from the wall that I run 24/7 and you guys say I'm destroying the planet. We can't even buy incandescent lightbulbs anymore for Christ's sake!

The enviro-movement is out of control and seems to be just another way for pointy-headed intellectuals to tell people how to live their own lives. Thats what pisses me off about it...

I think it is funny how sometimes GW gets turned into a political topic sometimes. Its a scientific topic, not political. Oh and there is not a such thing as "believing" or "not believing" in GW. Its a scientific fact, and you either except it, or turn a blind eye. Whatever your choice.

I agree. Global Warming is not going to just go away based on individuals actions. So I will not change my lifestyle based on the findings. When in fact its old fashion big companies that are destroying the planet, mainly in China now, that we have no control over.

Thats just it, its NOT a fact. These so-called experts regularly cook the books to make the data look better for their arguments. If you have the agenda that the world is warming and man is causing it, its very easy to cherry-pick data and even falsify findings to get the results you want. All of these clowns make their living on the notion that GW exists. They'd all be out of a job if the theory was totally debunked, hence their attempts to shut down any debate on the issue....

Remember the East Anglia emails? I've highlighted some of the finer points:

Quote:
Among the hundreds of e-mails, 10 to 20 messages seem to indicate that scientists at CRU and their correspondents considered deleting information requested by critics in the context of British and American freedom of information laws, and in at least two separate cases discussed how to have associate editors of peer-reviewed journals removed from their posts because they accepted critics' papers for publication. We do not know the detailed context of these messages, nor do we know if ideas discussed in these e-mails were actually implemented. Furthermore, though CRU has confirmed that most of the e-mails are genuine, some of them could have been forged or altered. Nevertheless, I think it is important for scientists to clearly state that if basic data were withheld, or if there was unprofessional tampering with the peer-review process, we do not condone these acts. It is equally essential to emphasize that alleged problems with a few scientists' behavior do not change the consensus understanding of human-induced, global climate change, which is a robust hypothesis based on well-established observations and inferences.

This guy is a believer in man-made GW and evne he has to acknowledge there is something fishy going on here. Notice how he admits that GW is a "hypothesis" and not a fact...

Yeah, and just remember "acid rain" is climate change too. However, just because volcanic explosions can cause it too doesn't mean we should be ramping up the amount and thoughtlessly allowing it to dump all over areas that naturally wouldn't have experienced it, and/or drowning areas that do anyway.

The same holds true for 'Global Warming' - or whatever you want to call it. We have more CO2 in our atmosphere than we have had in at least 800,000 years. Whether that's causing 'global climate change' or not is still being hashed out, but that's no reason to say we aren't contributing to its mere presence. That's no reason to ignore cities like Hong Kong that already directly demonstrate the very possible courses of our future from pollution. (Smog, increased length, intensity and frequency of dust storms due to growing desert, etc...)

So yeah, go ahead and flap your lips about the 'zomg, alarmists!' ... Or realize that playing down 'climate change' is just another way to ignore our overall environmental impact.

1. Lobby governments and create FUD within the populace
2. Lack of environmental legislation and/or funds to back what already exists
3. Focus on short term health of your industry/business
4. Profit (and then leave the company when you've squeezed out every last drop)

Seriously, people.
