Well, ask your great, great, grand kids....they might have a differing opinion.

Like I said. Humans tend to not see beyond the present and you are a perfect example. They don't have proof of it because the only way to get the proof is to invent time travel. They only have evidence and many people feel that the evidence is enough warrant even resorting to fear mongering to get people to change.

I just hope it isn't just to save a species of penguins or something and there is a real threat to the human race. There has been so much varriance in the few "what will happen" studies that it is hard to know what to believe and most studies are just add-ons to the "does Global Warming esxist" studies and are just an after thought or useless drivel stuck in there to add more effect to the numbers. One thing is true...all evidence points that there is a rapid climate change happening on planet earth. I wish people could just accept that as at least probable so that we could focus on what the impact will be. I for one like the heat...I think it would be nice if the average temp when up about 10° across the globe. If a life form can't adapt to that...oh well, go blame Darwin

Any article calling people "alarmists" makes me doubt it. Doing it 14 times makes me think they aren't even trying.

Everybody on OCN knows about the possibility of a flare and most could care less. Then there are some who have seen the historical data and realize the last time the sun was in a situation like this it continued as it is now. No upswing in flare activity at all. Solar flares are nothing new and neither is the world's ability to deal with them.

Everyone should know that his information alone does NOT mean that climate change or global warming is not a real phenomenon. I think more than anything the more we learn about the Earth's climate the more we realize we still have to learn.

The reason I hate environmentalism is because they are trying to hold our nation back from economic and technological prosperity while at the same time trying to micro-manage all of our lives.

I happen to love driving my sports car and you guys wanna take it away from me based on dubious science and guesswork. I enjoy running my A/C at 70F but you guys wanna make me sweat all day for the polar bears. I have a computer that draws 800W from the wall that I run 24/7 and you guys say I'm destroying the planet. We can't even buy incandescent lightbulbs anymore for Christ's sake!

The enviro-movement is out of control and seems to be just another way for pointy-headed intellectuals to tell people how to live their own lives. Thats what pisses me off about it...
The only change I can see caring about is your car, as far as the electric crap goes I don't give a damn. Nuclear power is probably what allows you to do that, as far as we are concerned here is nothing cleaner than nuclear as of now (mass power). So go a head and run your AC and your computer, I do. I also know I'm being powered by nuclear fuel, the plant is less than a couple hour drive from here.

Your also mistaken about them holding us back, we have the technology NOW to minimize this. We had the technology 10 years ago, it's major corporations and the masses not wanting to use it. At least you could be respectful and not get involved when you obviously don't want to learn about any of it.

To the light bulbs: The reason we switched that was not just to be eco-friendly, it's to save strain on power grids. You get the same amount of lumens with 1/2 the power cost. The bulb also last quite a bit longer, so I don't know why you care about that. In all reality incandescent bulbs are more environmentally friendly as they bio-degrade better, they don't have chems in them. So really, it's there to save you money and help the power grid work more efficiently. That helps you out, helps your job out, might even help you save lives. So ***?

I'm glad you help hundreds of people, it's a very nice cause and we need more people like that.

[edit: soon]

To the car: Having a fuel friendly car doesn't only help the earth, it helps conserve gas use. This leads to less national gas use, which would drive gas prices down (business 101). Driving prices down per nation is something that would effect the gas pricing globally, especially if it was the US or China. Mainly because we use a lot of gas, we are one of the leading (if not, the leading) consumers.

Now, you say you work in the medical field. You should be well aware then that there are many countries that struggle to afford the basic amenities of life. Fuel being one of them, it allows them to do plenty of things that could save lives. Transporting goods like water and food, as well as other needed things. Conserving fuel in your car helps the cause. Yes, one person doesn't make a difference. Though you didn't go into med school to be the one person who causes a difference, I'm sure you were aware that you would only help aid the difference.

My question is how, as a person who should be inclined to save lives, have you not researched into this? How can you save lives here and yet be selfish enough to not care about being conservative in hopes to save lives elsewhere? Being environmentally friendly isn't just about saving the earth, it's about saving the resources to help others better their lives.

You my friend are the one who is holding us back, being wasteful is not something you should be proud of or something you should want to do. These problems are now no longer a national thing, it is a world problem that we are all trying to solve. If I were one of your co-workers and I saw your opinions on this I would be ashamed to work with you. The answers you give aren't only appalling but are rather misleading. If don't know the entire side of the cause you might not want to get involved.

[edit: AC perspective] I forgot to add, it's 85-90 out. We have 75+ humidity, it reaches 98+ mid day. So the head index is about 115, this is just the fun part. In the winter we get lows of -20-50, FREAKING COLD. So I don't want to hear about not saving energy because it's hot/cold out. You go outside in 100+ weather with 98+ humidity and tell me how long you want to be out there. If your fat and you don't have pit stains your lying, cause it's freaking hot.

Yeah, my friend wants to go into astro-physics because he believes there is a huge correlation between the suns weather patterns and the earth. That is why a lot of people are saying this global warming and CO2 crap is hogwash. I don't really know whether or not to believe in GW. I still think we should work on minimizing our pollution, mainly because we don't know the effects.

This thread has been an amazing read. I just wanted to add that many forget global warming has become such a hot political topic not because of the urgency in saving our planet, but because of the billions of dollars in jeopardy on both sides of the equation. As green energy and legislation can generate and cost a ridiculous amount of money, it's no wonder why politicians are pushing scientists to provide data to back their (funded) agendas.

It is also no secret that oil/natural gas/coal companies stand to lose money if current policies become less carbon "friendly". Global warming is happening, it is just a matter if this is a natural occurrence, or if the tons upon tons of CO2 we dump into the atmosphere are actually causing an acceleration of this event. Thanks for the links, there was some good information, once sifted from the political garbage.
