[IGN] Dragon Age II Pulled from Steam, EA Responds

Unfortunately, Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to sell downloadable content. No other download service has adopted this practice. Consequently some of our games have been removed by Steam.

It seems it was Valve who decided to remove the game, it probably was their decision for Crysis 2 too. It would explain why Battlefield 3 won't be on Steam as it would be removed as soon as DLC is released.

I don't understand, what is EA doing with DLC to cause this?

you also forgot link source
The problem is that EA will only let the DLC be downloaded from the in game option and not from Steam itself. This is a violation of Steam's policy and the game was pulled, from my understanding anyway.

Thanks, that's what you get when posting a topic and being hungover

EA sell their DLC in-game and Steam doesn't allow that anymore, that's why they pulled Crysis 2 when the DLC was released and why they now removed Dragon Age 2, they want all DLC to be sold on the Steam store.

Don't understand why steam see this as a problem. I bought all of DA:O DLC from EA's website and the in game manager downloaded it and saved the content to My Documents after I logged into the account.

You can buy DLC within DiRT 3 in Steam. There is no DLC for DiRT 3 on the Steam store.

See, I put this more on EA. All EA would have to do is allow Steam to sell the DLC as is done with typical DLC.

It boils down to Steam wanting a piece of the pie as well. If DLC is only purchasable in game EA gets 100% of that money, however if it is sold also in Steam then Steam gets a piece as well.

Well, I guess more or less it's both sides being douchebags, and we suffer in the end with losing a source to obtain a product.

Interesting point, I wonder if they have it so Steam still gets a piece of that sale?

And also, wouldn't this prove that the reason being told is false?

The problem here is valve as much as we all hate EA (myself included)

I'm guessing that Valve is upset because under their terms, DLC is to be sold in their store for a cut. EA lets you click on something in-game which redirects you to their site or whatever to buy the DLC, bypassing steam, which results in violation of the game from steam by Valve, not EA.

I still think EA and Valve are up to something, as EA has always let you buy DLC in game, and DLC for DA2 was on the steam store IIRC (might be DAO dlc though)

And now to my point. No great loss for steam. EA are scum, and disk locked content doesn't help this issue with Valve and EA

In fact if DLC didn't exist, this problem would disappear.

They want a piece of the action that's why.
