[IGN] Dragon Age II Pulled from Steam, EA Responds - Page 3

Also here is the reason Origin is garbage. You live outside the US, like say Japan? Origin store is in Japanese EVEN when set to English US and all charges are in YEN, which is way too expensive. As the Yen has been rising against the dollar steadily for the past 4 years. 77 Yen to the Dollar currently. (For those who are not familiar with the conversion its like 77 cents for $1, or $77 for $100)

Steam is very friendly to American troops and civilians living outside the US. So screw Origin and its ****ty service.

EA knows exactly what they're doing and they're purposely breaking contracts in order to get people to use Origin in advance of BF3.

If Steam is going to sell the game itself, they should have the ability to sell any DLC associated with it. Generally it just makes everything easier. I don't want to go to EA/Bioware/GFWL/ETC and be forced to buy BS monopoly money that i can then exchange for DLC. Let me do a cash transaction like a grown adult ONCE and be done with it.
Simply put, ANY retailer would probably react the way Steam has to the fact that EA keeps trying to make DLC exclusive to one DD or

Dragon Age II?

...I believe this is where someone is supposed to say, "...and nothing of value was lost."

I think this is all on EA and I see it as unique branch of the overall DRM issue.

Doesn't matter who's at fault, the customer suffers in the end. Yea we'll still get BF3 and SWTOR, but I like having all my games on STEAM.

Hopefully Valve and EA can come to an agreement or something...

It's interesting to see the battle between the retailer and the developer continue, even into the digital side of things.

DLC is often the sole way that developers get back the whole of the development money they put into it, since retailers and other middlemen take a bunch of the cut.

I think Extra Credits covered something about this, or similar... I think it was something about the "Ten Dollar Project" EA is starting to keep used game sales from hitting their bottom line.

This makes sense, and honestly from a business perspective, I can't hate them. I downloaded Origin, and really it's not too bad. I like that I can add all my EA games to it that I have on CD so that I have a digital backup in case something happens to the disk.

To be honest, in the future I foresee each developer having their own distribution program. It's the best way for the company to get what they think they deserve. The good news is, this could ultimately mean lower costs to the consumer. In fact, if EA really wanted people to use Origin, they should just drop $10 off the price of buying it there, at least until it catches on.

I'm really digging the Origins app. I love the interface and "cleanness" of it, but most importantly, it always works. I've never had Origins open up with a blank page, which Steam does like half the time, requiring a restart of the app to function properly. Plus, I've never been locked out of my Origins account the way I was with Steam about 2 weeks ago, claiming I was "hacked".

Pure and simple, Steam sucks (IMO).

OT/ Wonder who's going to port over future Valve games to consoles now. . . .
