Help! 6950 will not display during Post, possible driver/flash problem

Hey I am having a weird problem with my Powercolor 6950 2GB, it has a bios switch. I managed to flash with a modded bios to unlock the shaders, which worked perfectly for a few days.

All was going well until today when I installed the 11.8 preview drivers and then tried to uninstall them, but they would not uninstall properly and i got a black screen during it and the card would not display on post or in windows.

I used a spare card i had to boot with which worked fine, and had my 6950 in another slot. I then uninstalled the 11.8 drivers. When they were uninstalled, the 6950 in device manager comes up as Standard VGA Adapter or something along them lines with a yellow astericks, is this normal?
This got me thinking when i flashed the modded bios I could have messed up the ability for it to be recognized as a 6950.

I then installed the driver for the device manually by going to the ati 11.5 driver installation folder and installing it that way.

Still go no display during boot, but when I enter windows desktop it displays just fine. When i got my card second hand from another guy, i think it didnt work when the switch was to position 1 but was fine in position 2 so i had it there for a while and I flashed the modded bios to position 2, then when trying to flash it back to original i could not erase the rom error kept popping up in atiwinflash, so i tried flipping the switch to one and flashing it and it worked, so now at position one i have stock bios and position 2 i have modded and cannot change 2 anymore.

Also after the 11.8 boshed installation I cannot adjust my votages at all in trixx or afterburner.

With it not displaying during startup do you think i have possibly broken somehow? still works but is annoying that I cannot access the bios on startup and what not. And i can't see it being a software problem if its not displaying during post right? has to be graphics card?

Any help on this would be great thanks as im about to go nuts.

Heading to bed aswell so I will reply to any posts in the morning!

That was a bit confusing but of what I could take away from it, you managed to flash a bios on #2 which is your failsafe.

Have you tried booting up on 1, acquiring the BIOS from 1 with RBE, then flipping over to 2 and flashing it? Then at least you'd have your "stock" BIOS on both.

EDIT: BTW I have the same card ... I've had best luck with using stock BIOS and then use RBE to unlock 6970 shaders and just use Vision/CCC to OC. No problems with 11.7 drivers, but haven't tried 11.8 preview drivers yet.

Yea tried that, it doesn't let me write to it. My real problem is just not being able to see anything during startup. I don't understand how this could have happened.

I would advise you not to install 11.8, and do not try to flash back to 6950.

Also when you uninstall your graphics driver via device manager, can you still get a display with you card using the windows drivers?

Yes I have always seen output with default VGA driver in between driver installs.

Clarification, can you see text-based output? That is, POST text, etc. ... If you can see that (but just not GUI/Windows output) then it's a driver issue. If you can't see anything on your troubled BIOS then you may have bricked that BIOS. Good thing you have 2!

Yeah I'm going to stay away from 11.8 until they work the bugs out. Hope things work out with yours.

I can't see anything with the windows driver at all in windows or post etc.

I can also not see anything right until I enter the desktop, this is on both bios. I boot up and everything comes on except the display from the monitor until i hear the windows logon sound then i get display.

Hmm, that's odd. Which connector are you using? HDMI out, by chance? If so maybe try it with straight DVI.

Get the same result using either connection. I know I am completely baffled. The card seems to function perfect under windows but just not during boot. Maybe I did something during the flash but I don't understand, all was fine until the 11.8 driver uninstall. It really is strange.

Probably going to try and sell it or try to get another card to crossfire with it if I can't find a soltution. Thanks for the help man!
