New build

So this is my very first build and by no means going to be the last. Here is what I sourced out in terms of components and below is the list. My main goal is to have a computer that can run CAD software (Solidworks, Autodesk) and simulation (Matlab) without a problem. I would consider myself a light gamer so gaming is not the main purpose. Anyways, let me know what you think and I am willing to to stay within +/- $100 (All prices are in canadian dollars). I made a few changes with the components, that's why i posted a new thread.

- Cooler Master HAF 932.................$149.99

One thing to consider is your HAF932. You may be able to get the HAF922 if you don't mind a little less room (still is pretty big), and if you purchase it from Coolermaster directly (refurbished) you can trim about $50 bucks off your total. I got my 922 refurbished and it was in excellent condition, not even a scratch and it was $79.99 free shipping and no tax.

i5 sounds perfect for you.

Another thing to consider is your HDD. If you are going to be using CAD software you could really see a benefit from having an SSD drive instead. Every program I use that is on my SSD is lightning fast.

Other than that...good build.

Only thing I would change is hard drive from Caviar to Samsung F3 its cheaper and performance equally.

If your willing to go $100 up maybe look into getting a little more juice out your graphics card perhaps a Radeon 6950 or GeForce 560 Ti?

Also consider SSD but you can always add it later.

Thanks,
Some very wise choices for a 1st time builder I must say - just 1 CRITICAL recommendation, and one redirect.

First the redirect: Lose the Cooler Master V8 and get the Noctua NH-D14 - it will blow it away. Secondly, you need a RAM cooler (dedicated). Get the Arctic Cooling RC Turbo Module - it's inexpensive, will fit over ALL RAM modules regardless of what anyone else says (and no special heatsinks are required). While you're at it grab some Arctic Cooling MX-4 grease it's the best...the included Noctua grease is also top-shelf though.

Next, the CRITICAL: Do not even waste your time upgrading if you are not going to buy an SSD (Solid State Drive) for your OS & Apps (and games I would also argue). Go with the OCZ Vertex 3, or ANY of their SATA III drives - the performance is second to none. Start with what you can afford, you can also add on more later. A second drive in RAID0 will DOUBLE your performance to 1100MB/s read, and 1050MB/s write (Vertex 3) with 0.1ms access time. Again, any of their SATA III drives will be killer.

Did I mention not to waste your time upgrading if you omit an SSD?

Wouldn't a workstation card be better for those programs? Other than that, good build, but Id get a shmexier case and a different CPU cooler

Cooling your ram is only needed when your running high speeds so no need for a ram cooler when your only running 1600 MHz.

Noctua NH-D14 would be the better choice yeah.
