Ack, still it rebooted automatically after the Starting Windows screen. Could the hardware change really have affected Windows like this? Running the memory checker just in case...

which chipset did you come from, mb is the only thing you changed right?

It is possible however usually rare anymore that just a mb switch cause drivers issues when changing actual chipsets.

And just out of curiosity what mode is your SATA in?

Previous MB was an MSI 890-GD70, which I believe was AM3 while this one is AM3+.
I definitely only changed the MB... As for SATA mode I actually dunno, nor do I know the options or how to check. I suspect it is this sort of lack of knowledge that has landed me in this mess >.<

After mulling it over with some guys at work I'm thinking I'll run a checkdisk on the 1.5tb. Failing that, I'll format the smaller HDD , boot into that, save whatever essential files I'll need from the 1.5tb (Bioware save files, vintage adult material ), wipe the 1.5tb, install Windows on it, take the files I wanted from the smaller one, and then just run off of the 1.5.

I just don't really understand how it could have happened. Sure, the system came down pretty hard when the previous MB failed (crashed after an hour of Prime95) but to actually damage the particular part of a HDD that is essential to Windows and cannot be repaired. I'm just concerned that even after a wipe it'll give me the same problem and I'll be at a loss.

Looks like AHCI is default for that mb's bios settings. Just try changing it to IDE. Honestly it may just work, or if you have an SSD then you want AHCI for sure and have to do a fresh install. And from what I can tell the 890 used IDE default so, it's worth a shot, worse case scenario is you still don't boot.

Hope that helps.

You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. If this works I'm naming my firstborn rx7racer. I definitely never changed the setting on the old board, so I'd bet it would have to be IDE. This seems promising but I've gotta make sure not to get my hopes up too high. Too bad I've gotta wait another 5 hours to find out!

Nah you can make the driver disk for AHCI on that mobo then run the windows 7 disk at boot and it will let you install drivers then you install the drivers in there and can switch back to AHCI if you like from that point. That's what I did with my CHV but I used a usb drive. I had a similar issue but the new mobo invalidated a lot of cd keys.
