Reality Check for Simple 3 Display Setup (non-Eyefinity)

Thread Starter
I have an M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 mobo, with a onboard 4250, and I'm wanting to connect dual monitors and my HDTV. Not for Eyefinity, just to have three displays without having to plug and unplug, 2 on the discrete card and HDTV on the IGP.

Normal use for me doesn't require much if any 3D, but I would like to have an effective folding machine, and perhaps use DXVA accelerated encoding (lots of video work). My philosophy is if I can afford to, I'd rather be overly prepared for the rare graphics-hog games, than be underpowered most of the time. I have a solid 400W PSU, which might be pushing it for the newer cards, but I think it'd be OK if I am careful about adding too many gizmos.

First I was looking at 4000 & 5000 series cards, 5770, 5670, etc... but then looking at the newer cards, like 6790, 6850, they don't seem as out of reach as I expected. So do I need a a reality check, or would it make sense to go ahead and get a 6850 (had read they were more bang/buck than the 6790).

Thanks,

For dual graphics just get a supported 6xxx card.
