Temp advice

Thread Starter
Ahoy-hoy, everyone.

As the title suggests, just looking at getting some feedback on my current temps and set up.

I'm running an intel i7 2600k on an Asus P67 Sabertooth at 4.5ghz.
The cooler was a very cheap Cooler Master TX3. It was a quick and easy decision at the time due to financial constraints, but it was enough to avoid the stock cooler.

Currently, my ambient temperatures are around 20°C and CPU at idle (with SpeedStep on) is 29° to 30°C and under Prime95 load (Small FFT's) it hits 70° to 75°C.

I should be receiving my Corsair H80 on Monday. Apologies to any watercooling purists out their who just gritted their teeth and face planted the desk. ;p

But yeah, do these temperatures seem okay for what I'm using? Any advice? Sharp and witty elitest comments to crush my soul and devalue my worth as a human being? Anything at all?

Thanks for your time!

If you have a extra 92mm fan stick it on the TX3 because those temps are really high. I recommend backing your oc down until you get your H80.

Awesome computer btw!

And welcome to OCN

Your temps seem about right for that cooler. But I don't see what your worried about as you know its not the best cooler as you getting your H80. That should give you better temps for sure.

Thanks very much! I've frequented this site for many, many years but have never signed up. That's what you get for being socially inept, I suppose.

Yeah, I thought they might have been a tad too much.
Will definitely be backing it up until the H80. These clocks were just what I was creeping up to while seeing what it can do.

Tried re-seating the heatsink a few times to see if I could get better contact.
Especially with a HDT surface and those damn gaps.
Best I could find was a small glob of Arctic5 and manually covering the surface.

Thanks again for the welcome. :]

Those temps are adequate for that cooler another fan would help, back down the overclock.
Are you running any cpu intensive program that requires such overclock or you just doing for fun? To me its pointless having the cpu at 4.ghz if you're idling most of the time unless you're running F@H 24/7.

No problem

I have the same cooler as you and it is ok best way to pull more performance is to slap another 92mm fan on it

Best of luck to you and I hope you temps go down when you get your H80 so you can get some more OC action

Speedstep and Cstates drop your multi and voltage if you're not using them so it really doesn't hurt to keep a high OC.

Temps are fine, not dangerous, a second fan for push/pull would help but if you have an H80 on the way just wait for that.

Mostly for fun + To see what the chip is capable of.
I do however play a lot of games and I'm always in pursuit of those extra frames per second. Oh, and I do 3D art and graphic design. But still, mostly for fun.

I actually jumped onto the site of my local parts retailer with that in mind.
Started hunting for a 92mm fan, noticed the Corsair H80... Saw a heap of old computer parts on my shelf... Ebay springs to mind... You can see where I'm going with this, right?

So instead of just getting a 92mm fan, I ended up getting a H80 and a 200mm Antec Big Boy shipped. =s

Really appreciate everyones input. Wasn't exactly sure what my temps should look like and was wondering if it required a re-seat or something.

OP - A load temp of 70-75c is great for an overclocked Intel chip. People who use AMD chips get freaked at temps like that, but your chip will run fine at that temp. Just make sure the core Voltage stays within Intel's recommendation.

Never never upgrade a cheapo heatsink. Your choice to upgrade to an H80 was the right one. Congratulations.
